First Spofity made it extremely difficuslt to add/invite family members to the service, now that you can easily add them, you get stuck paying for them each month even if they never activate the account! Thats a pretty sleazy business model!

When you sign up for the family plan, the charges occur right away and will renew every month until you cancel. It is up to the user to manage their family plan and communicate to the family members to make sure they have activated their accounts on the plan. 

 

If you do not want to pay for an account that is not being used, you will need to remove that account from the plan.

 

Spotify has made several improvements to the process of adding and removing members from your family plan. Soon you should be able to add and remove members without having to cancel the whole plan and resubscrtibe.

 

To remove the inactive account you may need to cancel the plan and resubscribe because the improvement might not be live yet.
