Premium user can't log in because of error 409

Premium user can't log in because of error 409

Hi, I'm trying to login to my desktop app (on Macbook) and it says I can't login because "App is restricted to premium users only. Error 409." I am on a family premium account that works fine on my phone. How can I get Spotify back on my computer?

I got this same error after updating my Mac laptop to Ventura 13.6.4. I just deleted the Spotify app by moving it to the trash, clicking on empty. And then went back to Spotify website to download the app again for Mac. It let me log in. Problem solved. 🙂 Hope this was helpful.

Hello... I'm having the same issue...... I've been running Spot on my desktop and it all of a sudden stopped.

Hey @Olivedog,

Thanks for posting here and welcome.

As mentioned previously in this thread by other users, performing a clean reinstall of the app on your device can solve these issues. If you haven't yet, we invite you to do it by following these steps. By doing that, the app can be up-to-date, and you can make sure the cache is not leading to this behavior.

If the above doesn't do the trick, make sure to check for any updates for the affected device. Additionally, we'd like to gather some additional info. Please send us:

  • Can you listen to music using the web player?
  • Did you notice if this started to happen after a specific event, such as an OS update?

To answer your initial question, no, the use of the desktop app is not restricted to Premium accounts, you can use it regardless if you have a free account or a subscription.

We'll be on the lookout!
