Removal of desktop notifications

Removal of desktop notifications

On May 15th, we will be turning off the in-app notifications "bell" on desktop. We are continuously working to improve and simplify our notifications features, and this change will allow us to shift our focus to email and push notifications. We are also working on completely new ways of keeping you up-to-date with new album releases, helping you discover new music, and know what your friends are up to.

To make sure you have your email and push notifications set up the way you'd like, check out the steps here.

Please share any feedback you have here in the Community. We're listening, and will pass it all on to the team.

Have also cancelled premium and moved to Google Music.

I started with Google Music about 5 years ago, then moved to Rdio. When Rdio went bust I debated between Google and Spotify, and went with Spotify due to this feature. Now its gone, so the main reason is removed.

I used STAMP to move over. I fortunately had all my artists in playlists already due to previous Rdio transition. Out of ~4600 tracks only 500 were not matched.

I'm testing muspy for notification on releases. It has email and RSS notifications. Since Spotify's solution is no better with removal of bell, no real difference.

I'm sure this makes no big dent to Spotify, but fortunately as consumers we have options and capabilities to move on if we choose.

I WANT MY BELL BACK!!!!!!!

Where the **bleep** is the sense in deleteing this helpful and unique function?

Give me my bell back!

The notifications bell is an incredibly practical tool to keep track of all of the artists you are following (which i assume is the reason why we are able to follow artists and playlists?), and now that it is gone i am unable to keep up with the amount of new music continuosly being published during my busy schedule.

You say you removed it to increase simplicity, and yet the inbox button is still there, making the removal of the notification button basicly unnoticable from a fashion/style viewpoint. Now i am not saying remove the inbox button (but you can because it is accesible from the side menu as well, unlike the notifications) i am just saying that it would be extremely practical to be able to choose yourself wethere or not this notifications bell will be shown or not.

Or just get the bell back there altogether, that'd be amazing.Please.

Kind regards, long-time happy customer

For the past few months I've been signing into the web player to collect my notifications, which was far from ideal, but it was all I had when switching between devices at multiple locations. I've signed in to the web player today to find it gone!
I receive emails but they're not practical and not always accessible.

I listen to obscure music which never features on my home page and your predictions of what you think I'll like are utterly wrong.

I don't want to listen to what you force feed me or what you've been paid to promote to me. I know what I like and I have many trusted sources from which to discover new music that's relevant to my tastes.

I'm researching other streaming music providers. Once I've found an alternative I'm leaving unless you reinstate notifications

since only yesterday, I see what you were talking about the "radar" it's better than nothing, but nothing to do with the bell ! for there I find new artists that I do not subscribe! so, i don't understand, why they removed ? and why despite all the complaints they did not call? ! ps: when the french forum come ? because it's not easy for me !

Why would you do this?

Spotify is getting worse and worse with every update.

What's next? Removing playlists?

Pffff... why do I bother to pay for a product I don't like anymore?

Didn't know bout stamp, thanks, man, now I have more reasons to leave this became-crappy service, because it had the most full library of my subs, and with completely switchin' off notifications these s'oles are turning me off using it even further.

the radar is complete BS. none of my artists that i follow have releases on there. AND AND THE WORST PART is it puts artists that I HATE in there.....useless. from reading everything i definitely agree with the fact that its just spotify trying to plug what they want you to hear. if i wanted that i would have stuck with the free account. I PAY YOU. UGGHGHGHHH i'm so annoyed.

pretty sure it's disappeared off of my samsung s3 mini , good while back too

it's been removed from the web player bro 😞

I do not use Spotify on mobile, and I use email exclusively for communication and business purposes.  Even if I did use Spotify on mobile, I would still disable notifications, as I get enough important notifications, as is.  I will not allow my device notifications or email be cluttered with Spotify's uneccesary spam.  Spotify is consistently removing useful features, and now they've removed these notifications from the web player.  At this rate, Spotify's soon to become no more useful than a primitive audio player, ala Winamp.

This is the second week I use Release Radar... well, on this new playlist of 29 songs 23 are the same as the previous week, 4 are different songs of the same album already show me the previous week and 2 are from artist I don´t follow.

Great job Spotify

The release radar is great in concept. problem is (for me at least) 30 - 40% of my release radar tracks have been the same as they were the week before.

Canceling mine as well. Very outdated, almost an embarrassment.

So despite an initial positive reaction to release radar, a month or two on now and it's not cutting it. It's a good addition, sure- but nothing more... I am missing so many new releases and it has completely thrown off my music listening habits for the worse.

DOES ANYBODY know of any way to access new release notifications? I don't care what needs to be done, I will go out of my way to make this work.

The Spotify notification system is obviously still functional as my Android phone receives new releases notifications (in clusters, usually on Friday's), but each notification disappears very quickly and there is no way to access those besides being quick enough to save the music when the notification appears.

^ Once more, the Spotify notification system is obviously stilll up and running, if someone has the technical knowledge to dig in to Spotify's code and find a straightforward way of accessing these I offer a $50 reward to anybody who can offer a viable solution.

If you also receive their email notifications, I described a method in this thread already, but it depends on manually clicking links, so it is not very automated:

My email notifications have not come through in at least a year or two, I have tried everything to make them work but it seems that the Spotify email system is broken. I don't mind my inbox being flooded by new releases, I just want to know of their existence.

Strange that some users still have problems with receiving email notifications. I just checked mine again, everything is enabled there:

So nothing fancy here, and they get sent to my usual Facebook email address, as this account was created through Facebook. I assume you checked the spam folder of your email account already if they maybe get blocked before they can be sent to you?

It seems like you didnt read the previous posts! Its about "the bell" and Not about mail-notifications! Tststststs #trottel

Yes to all of the above. I have tried several different combinations of checking options with no change, as well as changing the email my Spotify account is registered with. I have tried evvvveryyything.

If you could please follow all 1400 of the artists I am following, and then forward all the new releases to me as they come out each week it would be much appreciated.
