Spotify Connect plays greyed out songs in a playlist

Spotify Connect plays greyed out songs in a playlist

Plan: Premium

Country: USA

Device: M2 Macbook Air + Onkyo TX-NR676 via Spotify Connect

Operating System: Sonoma 14.1

My Question or Issue:

I am posting this here because there is no Spotify Connect section of the forum.

Spotify Connect plays tracks in my Discover Weekly playlist that I have greyed out via the minus button.  If I am listening on my Mac and grey out a track in my Discovery Weekly, the Spotify app on my Mac will skip over that track.  If I then do what I normally do which is use the Spotify app on my Mac to connect to my Onkyo receiver so I can play music via my much-better-sounding stereo system than my Macbook, any Discover Weekly songs that are greyed out will play instead of be skipped over like they should.

Since I can monitor what is playing on my Onkyo stereo by looking at the Mac app, I have attached a screenshot showing a greyed out song that is playing on my Onkyo.

Obviously if the song is greyed out then it shouldn't be played regardless of what device is being used, so this is a bug 🙂

Hey hey @csoracco,

Thanks for posting on the Community. The topic does work in the Mac board, so we will leave it live here.

You are right that the song should be skipped on the speaker, so to cover all our bases let's try some troubleshooting.

In the past a similar issue was solved by updating the firmware of the speaker, could you please check if yours has any pending updates?

It's also a good call to update your app on the Mac and clear you cache in case that is causing issues.

Keep us in the loop here.

Hi Elena,

Thank you for your response! This problem has been there for many months and I only got around to posting about it because randomly my Onkyo receiver just updated its firmware and I noticed that the problem wasn't fixed with the firmware update.  I just cleared the cache on my Mac app but I couldn't update it because it's already the latest version.  I'll test again when I'm home later today and will let you know.
