My Question or Issue

Whenever I'm in a discord call, the sound quality from Spotify is dreadful. My headphones are Sony WH-H900N and connected through bluetooth. I saw that switching that my input source to the internal mic might solve the issue but it hasn't.

When you're using a VoIP call, usually your operating system switches the Bluetooth codec to a suitable one for bidirectional audio called SBC. It's not a Spotify problem.

You can check this pressing Option while checking the Bluetooth menu option, then selecting the device, then checking the codec.

To fix this and force the use of AAC or aptX: https://9to5mac.com/2018/08/31/mac-how-to-force-aptx-aac-on-your-supported-bluetooth-headphones/

I had that problem for years and found that the easy solution is to switch your mic so that you use the one that's built into the computer. System settings > Sound > Input and click on the one that's named build-in microphone.

Thank you soo much for this!! I was almost giving up on using spotify and Discord at the same time haha. You saved my studying sessions!!

youre the best

hi! I have the same issue, but I'm on Windows. does anyone have an idea how to fix it there? I haven't found anything online except for this thread 😕

this is how I do it. But, it forces you to mute your mic.

1. Go into the IOS settings app

2. Scroll down until you see Discord, click it. (It should be in a big list, past Music, Photos, and Camera).

3. Switch the “Microphone” setting off (it should be in the first few options).

i did it just now, its as simple as switching the input device on discord to your built in microphone or whatever microphone that isnt your headset but keep the output the same.

But this dosn't solve the issue on android. And OP made that clear as well. Why is this marked as the solution. The quality of spotify is unacceptable when it's like this. I no longer pay for premium because i can literally not listen to spotify anymore on the go. And at home i just listen through add free services.

The only way to get me (And all the others who have issues with this) back on premium is to solve this issue once and for all and not screw customers over like this.

I think it's worth noting that after canceling my premium i tried to use spotify again while on discord and the issue is still there. BUT. Not when ads are played. So it's a setting in spotify and has nothing to do with bluetooth mic being active. Which btw. Also isn't an issue in quality on discord or other apps. Only spotify. So it's not bluetooth issue. It's a spotify app issue. And users can't do anything about it but keep yelling at customer support that this is an issue and hope that they actually do what they are paid to do instead of feeling important in doing nothing but telling people off and hunt down these loud requests to delete them and try and hush down the issue.

Hello! I'm on windows 11 and also can't find a way to force this change. Did you ever figure out how to do it? My laptop is a Lenovo LOQ 15 and the bluetooth headphones are a Sony model. Thank you in advance!

Thank you ily
