Spotify no longer launches in Spaces or Full Screen

Solved!

Spotify no longer launches in Spaces or Full Screen

Since having received the new updated version of Spotify with the UI changes, Spotify no longer remembers which Space it had been previously assigned. It also no longer launches in Full Screen mode.

I'll assign Spotify its own space and have the application in full screen mode. Upon closing Spotify and reopening the application, it launches in the main desktop space, is no longer in full screen mode, and the application window is reduced to about 1/4 of the total display size.

Anyone else experiencing this behavior?

To anyone concerning windows users, use this site for instructions on how to open programs in a maximized window. I have not tried this with programs that open on startup, but when using the shortcut on my desktop, they do open fully. Who would've known that you could change the window size in the properties?

The value your eyes should be focused on is under the Shortcut tab, and in the dropdown box for "Run:". normally it's set to "Normal Window" but after changing it to Maximized and applying, and after restarting spotify and other programs, it fixes the issue. I will be working on finding a solution for Mac users.

Cheers.

I found one solution but im not sure if it will work seeing as I am a Windows user and I can't test this, but it seems others found it helpful.a9d5c111c65bd3def4f10d4035a2567f.png

Try that out mate, if it doesn't work, well, I don't seem to see anything else on the topic for Mac users, so thats the extent of my help.

I hope that helps, cheers

Hi, and welcome to the community!

Doesnt do that on my client.

What OS and Spotify version are you running?

Have you tried a quick Clean reinstallation of Spotify?

Could you post a screenshot of your client please?

Anthony 🙂

H! Thanks for the welcome and for your response!

I am running OSX 10.9.2 and I've attached a screen shot of my client.

I followed the instructions for performing a clean uninstall you provided in the link and the issue still exists.

Hi, being a windows user I can't confirm it on a mac, so will see if I can get a mac user to check out whether it exists.

However, upon restarting my PC Spotify does launch as a small window rather than full screen as I left it so I will escalate this as a potential issue.

Just wanted to let you know that I'm having the same issue as well running 0.9.8.296g91f68827 on Mac OS X 10.9.2 (Mid-2010 MacBook Pro)

Thanks, Anthony!

Me too.

My Mac has the latest updates.

Yes! Our Mac running 10.9.2 has started doing exactly the same. Spotify used to launch automatically and then hang around in its own space over to the right. Rather liked it being there, never knew it was called Spaces. Have tried setting it to launch on Startup but it just plonks itself right over the desktop...

I'm also having the same issue. I am running Mac OSX 10.9.2 and Spotify 0.9.8.296.g91f68827 (The latest update). I hope this issue is fixed soon.

Hey @Hatious is this working for you in the latest update for desktop?

The original problem is still unresolved, despite the latest update.

Now launches on Startup but over the desktop just like any other application...

This solution does not work for macOS users (10.15.7, Spotify 1.1.43.700.g20acee0f). Spotify still opens in it's own window and doesn't use the full screen. All other macOS apps follow this behaviour.

Hey @sllrp,

Thanks for reaching out.

Could you let us know if the issue persist after updating your OS and Spotify to the latest versions available? You can learn how to do this for the Spotify app here

If after that the issue persists it's a good idea to check if gets resolved with the option Close windows when quitting an app set to both on and off. You can find it in your Mac's System Preferences under General.

Keep us posted. We’ll keep an eye out for your reply.

Thank you for the suggestions, Mihail. I have updated Spotify to the newest version (1.1.46.916.g416cacf1), macOS is the newest version of Catalina (10.15.7 (19H15)). I can't upgrade to BigSur at the moment, however Catalina will be officially supported for another 2 years, so I would expect Spotify to work normally.

I also tried toggling the Close windows when quitting an app option and restarting my system, yet the issue remains. Spotify is the only app in my system that does not remember these settings.

Hi there @sllrp,

Thanks for the detailed info.

Could you tell us if you'd run the clean reinstall of the app, deleting all the app data, like @Mihail suggested?

We need to check a few more things, since we weren't able to reproduce this on our end. Can you try the following and tell us how the app behaves?

  1. With "Close windows when quitting an app" enabled and Spotify in Full Screen, click Spotify from the Menu Bar > Quit Spotify
  2. Wait until Spotify fully quits/closes
  3. Launch Spotify via Launchpad or via the Dock

If you could do a screen recording and attach it to your next reply, that'd be very helpful.

Thanks 🙂

I know I am too late for this, but i got a solution that worked for me. (Win 11) Just go to ALL APPS in Start, go down to spotify and drag the app to the Desktop. After that right click to the shortcut and go to properties. Then instead of "Normal Window" choose "Maximised", hit apply and you should be ok!

Thanks a lot, it was annoying the living humanity out of me 🙂
