Spotify pauses when disconnecting airpods

I use Spotify to on my desktop to play music through the speakers for everyone at home to hear (chromecast or spotify connect, same behaviour on both), and I simultaneously use my airpods for the other audio on my computer (youtube, editing videos etc), and when I disconnect my airpods the audio stops on chromecast/spotify connect. Those two actions shouldn't have anything to do with eachother and is very annoying since the music in the room stops every time I have to take a phonecall or similar when the airpods switches over to my phone. Is this a macOS issue or is it a Spotify issue?

If the AirPods are too far from your smartphone or another device, this might cause them to lose connection, which would result in sudden pausing of audio. AirPods Bluetooth connection has maximum proximity of around 30-60 feet.
