[iOS][Connect] MacBook 10.9.5 - Spotify only available in Web Player

I can only use Spotify on the MacBook via "Web Player (Chrome)".  Clicking on the Spotify in the menu bar simpy elicits yet another download and all I get is a black Spotify page that does nothing, altho it's shown in finder as another drive (like a back-up device). It is impossible to simply open Spotify from the menu bar - once downloaded for the zillionth time there's still just another black screen for Spotify that does nothing.  Is it possible to fix this and play Spotify from the MacBook app rather than the Chrome browser?  (Btw - the "Web Player (Chrome)" works ok with the Android phone.)  Is my OS X just too old...?

Could you try again by downloading it from here?

Also, if possible try updating to a newer version of macOS (currently the latest one is macOS Mojave 10.14.6).

If you have tried both of my suggestions previously, could you attach a screenshot of what you see when tyring to install Spotify?
