1.0.75.483.g7ff4a0dc broke Toastify global shortcuts

Hi there, the recent update of 1.0.75.483.g7ff4a0dc has caused Toastify's global shortcut keys function to stop working. The global hotkey function is absolutely important to me as I am mostly working on my laptop in fullscreen mode and I do not have dedicated multimedia buttons to toggle between tracks.

Edit Update: As this problem has already been resolved by the good efforts of @aleab , I am pinning a link here to those who are interested to make contributions to his volunteer effort. Thanks

EDIT: You can find the latest release of Toastify here.

As @goldstar2154 said, I've just release a new version of Toastify that fixes the hotkeys problem without breaking anything else, hopefully 🙂. In case it did break something I didn't manage to fix during my tests, please open an issue report here.

Same issue...

I reverted to previous Spotify version 1.0.74.380.g1fcff12a, and it works for now. But I hope that it will work with new version shortly.

Try

https://autohotkey.com/download/

Works pretty well for me

Autohotkey looks a little more complicated than Toastify.  How do you set it up?

yes...its more tricky to configure... (but you only have to do once and the keys works for others programs tooo)

I followed this
https://superuser.com/questions/278951/my-keyboard-has-no-media-keys-can-i-control-media-without-the...

That one does work!  I was trying to follow this guide with no luck.  I miss the little notification window toastify would pop up, but this will do it until toastify works again.

Thanks.

I tried rolling back inlcuding the steps to prevent autoupdates, it did work for awhile. But this morning it autoupdated again somehow....frustrating, i'll probably give autohotkeys here a try if it isn't too hard.

I hope someone with right skills could pick up Toastify or make a new tool.

I have the exact same issue, and I'm really pisssssssssst! about this. Why can't spotify just provide us, this built in rather than breaking third party software that we are forced to get to fix this issue. HOW isn't this done by now?

HELLOOOOOOO!?

Same issue and I am very annoyed.

Honestly, Spotify should support this within the system itself. Clearly a lot of users need and use this.

Please, Spotify, get with the flow!

Reason toastify doesn't work is because, spotify windows application doesn't allow hotkeys to be used while it is minimized to control features like volume. However if you have a media keyboard your built in media keys will still work as normal.

For example: if you have spotify open and focused (click anywhere in spotify) and use the hotkey ctrl + arrow up (which raises the volume up) ctrl + arrow down (decreases the volume)

main reason I use toastfiy is to CONTROL the VOLUME ONLY

Even media keys on keyboards work, not all mechanical keyboards (which gamers mostly use) have those media keys, like mine does not (Ducky One).

So dumb I now need to alt+tab in order to change song, volume or play/pause while gaming. I hope Spotify will consider giving us option to bind control keys to any key we want and they work globally.

Hi guys! Same issue here.

Solved it by downloading the previous version: Spotify 1.0.74.380
from here: https://www.filehorse.com/download-spotify/old-versions/

Just started this (without uninstalling the most recent version). It will start with no issue after a little install window. You will recognize the old-styled menu bar in the top left corner.
To be sure the app does not update itself again, you can easily do the following:

1. Go to C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roamin\Spotify and remove "Spotify_new.exe" and "Spotify_new.exe.sig" (if they still exist after starting the above mentioned older version. They were removed automatically at my computer when the old version was started.
2. Create new text files with notepad or whatever tool you like for the previous mentioned exe files (0 byte files are okay). (You can rename it from .txt to .exe / .exe.sig)
3. Write protect the files at the file settings menu (rightclick -> properties)

Now Tostify is working again and Spotify won't update itself unless you want it to do so (just remove the self-created files and auto-update)

Spotify please read this

Same here and I really wish they would rectify this. It's extremely annoying to have to ALT-TAB to pause/mute/adjust volume.

On https://community.spotify.com/t5/Live-Ideas/Global-HotKey-for-Pause-Play-Next-Song-etc/idi-p/57061 spotfy team said that they will not implement global key on spotify, and in the same way, they will not make an effort to keep plugins like toastify working on new versions... so even if they fixed on next version, it will eventually stop working again on future versions...

The way to go is to use other programs that are independent from spotify (program that configure media keys that work for any other program) like

https://autohotkey.com/download/

I followed this tips to configure it on my machine

https://superuser.com/questions/278951/my-keyboard-has-no-media-keys-can-i-control-media-without-the...

I was using Toastify combined with AutoHotKeys to map multiple hotkeys from mouse \ keyboard to spotify and because I liked overlays telling me what's playing now. I don't like the option of mapping to media keys as several applications use them as well (Media Player Classic and Audible off the top of my head), so I can't reliably control music as I can't predict which one will react and end up frustrating me. Really sad it's being discontinued now, if it's done on purpose - sorry, but this is not the way to approach software. Dear devs, please fix this.

Toastify was the only reason I kept using spotify and paying for premium for nearly 3 years now. I hope they fix it.

I have used Autohotkey with Spotify for several years. Unfortunately after today's update it stopped working. It seems like Spotify just stopped accepting the key sequences sent by Autohotkey. If anyone have a workaround for this, please share. Otherwise it's a band news, because without these hotkeys I don't see any reason to continue using spotify at all. It's a terrible time we're living: Firefox has totally ruined itself last fall, now it does Spotify. R.I.P. ((
