Auto-downloading on Windows - slowing down computer

My Question or Issue

When I open the Spotify app on my PC, I get a message on the left-hand pane that says "Downloading song X of X".  My computer runs extremely slow while it's downloading, and it takes a very long time.  This doesn't happen with the Web player.  I can't figure out:
A) what it is downloading and why

B) how to view what it's downloading or why

C) how to find any settings to change what is downloading, why it's downloading, or to see what is downloading.

D) how to stop or pause the downloading.

Any and all help is appreciated.
