My Question or Issue

After years of successfully running Spotify on this laptop running WinXP  when I received notifications that XP was no longer going to be supported by Spotify I upgraded to Win7.  The spec of the machine will not allow me to take it to Win10.  Now I am getting the black screen issue mentioned in other topics ie Spotify appears to open normally showing all features and lists but after a song is shosen after a minute or so the screen goes completely black apart fron the close etc icons at top.  I have tried all the solutions offered elsewhere Compatability, Appdata, Russian language etc all to no avail.

Surely there is an answer somewhere  Come back XP all is forgiven !!!

Hey @johnf52, welcome to the Community.

Hope you're doing great!

Try to disable Hardware Acceleration, just click on the … top left corner, inside the View tab find Hardware Acceleration and next click on it to disable then confirm to restart Spotify.

Hope it helps 🙂

Hi

Yes already tried this and all the other suggestions ie compatibility
selection etc.

Further clue. Screen only goes black when a song starts. Quite happy to
sit there displaying ok until you start a song then in a few seconds >>>
Blackness

Any other ideas gratefully received. Cant understand why had trouble free
use for years with XP and this happens the second I update to Win7. Would
not have updated if Spotify hadnt said werent going to support XP any more!!

Thanks
John

Dont know if this would be a clue to others or any Spotify techs watching.

If I have two machines open one using the app and one open through my account to the web player.  If the playlist (streamed or stored) is selected on the machine running the app, which would normally go black as soon as music is started, but is played from the machine running the web player, then the machine that would normally go black as soon as a tune is started, is fine and all transport controls remain visible and active etc.  Not sure where to go from here.

This issue is really getting me down.  Beggining to wish I'd never upgraded and taken a flyer on Spotify closing down XP support
