Bluetooth headphone controls not working

Recently I've been trying to use a new pair of bluetooth headphones with my computer (Windows, Lenovo Yoga Pro 2). All of the controls work fine with the native Windows Media player, but for some reason with Spotify, the Play function control on the headphones does not work consistently. The Pause function works, as does the track skip forward/backward function, so I'm not sure why only the Play function hasn't been working with Spotify (again, it works fine with the Windows Media player). I've tried setting/resetting the hardware acceleration setting, even redownloading Spotify, and no luck. Please help!
