Can't find other users' profiles

Can't find other users' profiles

Hello,

I tried to find other users' profiles by using the search function. I tried to search them by putting in the form "spotify:user:username" and put the real username (f.e. JohnDoe) but this doesn't work. Is the fact I have a free account the reason that it doesn't function? It would be great if anyone would have a piece of advice. Thanks.

Hey @dadiddopf,

It looks like you're trying to do this in the web player. I'd recommend trying it in the desktop app 🙂

thanks for your advice, in the desktop app it's better 😉

But if I use a capital for the username it doesn't work, f.e. BMW instead of "bmw"

And umlaute like "ü", "ö", "ä"  are not supported? There comes an error message if I use this.

There are no capital letters in usernames and it is certainly possible that not all characters are supported for this 'command'.

You can, however, look up these users by entering https://open.spotify.com/user/[username] into your browser.

But can I then use the recitable name like johndoe or do I have to use the cryptical username like 'hheeo81HHOO3aq' or something like that?

Thank you for your help.

Hmm, I'm not quite sure what you're talking about. Can you please provide some more info?

Sorry,

for every profile Spotify generates a unique username, this is the "cryptical" one I meant which is shown in the preferences of the profile. But you can give your profile a recitable name like f.e. JohnDoe, and this name is shown with a picture or logo at the overview of your profile.

For example BMW has a spotify link like https://open.spotify.com/user/bmw

Other users have a link like https://open.spotify.com/user/hyjds05qa5nzegnv5a7pj00lm

The account name for this user is: Schüller

The username is: hyjds05qa5nzegnv5a7pj00lm

Is a free user profile the reason for this fact?

As Spotify looks to improve the overall experience, they’re now automatically generating usernames, hence the random numbers and letters 🙂

You don’t need to remember this random generated username to log in. You can log in with just your password and the email address associated with your account.

During sign up, you were able to personalize your account by creating a profile name that’s displayed in the app. There are no limitations to a profile name, so you were able to choose any you like 🙂

Yes that's right, but how can I find for example this user with the code spotify:user:Schüller? There comes no result in the search form (even in the desktop app), although it's a public profile with playlists. It's also not possible to change a existing profile name although there is a unique account name made by Spotify. This is what I can't understand.

Does BMW have a individual account name, because they have a special premium profile?

You can't, as that's not their username. You can, however, find them by entering 'spotify:user:hyjds05qa5nzegnv5a7pj00lm'.

BMW has a custom display name and a regular username. That's what all verified profiles have. The newly created Spotify accounts have something similar.

Ahh habe gesehen, du sprichst deutsch 🙂

Wenn ich das richtig verstanden habe, muss also das Profil verifiziert sein, damit man über den Usernamen, der außen sichtbar ist, gefunden wird, also wie bei BMW:

https://open.spotify.com/user/bmw

Kann man ein kostenloses Profil verifizieren? Oder geht das nur beim Premium-Profil?

Vielen Dank.

Nein, das Profil muss einfach ausreichend Follower haben. Einige andere Kriterien spielen aber auch eine Rolle.

This is a fairly annoying issue right now for me too. Now if I search other people by their real name (facebook account), nothing shows up unless I'm friends with them on FB. Unless I know their spotify username, there's no direct way to search for other profiles. I recall this happening for a short period last year but then was back to normal, now it's happening again.

@MPT,

Thank you very much!
