My Question or Issue

This is not the first time this subject has been raised but it was wasn't answered in the original post and the thread has now been closed.

I have an artist in "My Library" that I am not following nor are there any songs downloaded. Every other artist in "My Library" is there because I am following them. If I "Unfollow" an artist they immediately disappear from the list.

This is not related to any particular device (Mac, iPhone, iPad) so the information must be stored on the Spotify servers. As one respondent said in the now deleted thread, you cannot contact Spotify to get an answer.

It is very annoying!

Hey @dgmhall, welcome to the Community!

Sorry to hear you're having trouble with this. Just to clarify, you're unable to remove this specific artist from Your Library?

Do you have any trouble removing him from a different device?

Give it a try and let us know how it goes.

SergioDavid: It is not possible to "remove" an artist from the Artists section of "Your Library". You can either Follow them or Unfollow them. If only there was a "Remove" option!

I downloaded the album "Pink Flag" by Wire to my iPhone recently and the band Wire appeared in my Artists list. When I removed the downloaded songs some time later and cleared the cache, Wire was removed from the Artists list. The artist I have in my Artists list which I don't want is Smashing Pumpkins. I am not Following them and I have no songs anywhere by them in my Playlists, Songs, Albums etc.

This is a bug and I would like to see it fixed!

Hey @dgmhall.

Thanks for getting back to us.

Does the issue persist from a different device? Does logging out and back in make a difference?

Let us know how it goes.

SergioDavid: with respect, I have explained the problem and you are just asking questions instead of coming up with a solution. Of course it doesn't fix it when I log out/log in. That's equivalent to the old Windows "ctrl-alt-del" solution to any problem. Mind you, in the case of Windows, it often worked!

The question is, where is the Artist/Album/Playlist data stored? Obviously not on each device as all changes on one device are reflected on all the others. Therefore, the information is stored on the Spotify servers. And that's where it must be fixed.

Do you work for Spotify??

Hey @dgmhall.

Thanks for writing back.

That info is stored from our side, but it can sometimes take a while to update from your end, which is where logging out and back in could help.

Since that made no difference though, it's best if you try a quick reinstall to see if the band gets removed from your Artists tab.

If that doesn't help, reach out to us here with your account info so we can get a closer look.

Hope that helps.

SergioDavid: As I have already said (and you have now acknowledged) the data is stored by Spotify. Despite my misgivings, I have gone through the reinstall procedure on my Mac as specified on the web-site and guess what? Smashing Pumpkins are still in my Artists list. Just as I expected they would be. As they have been for many months and probably years.

If you have any influence, request that Spotify remove Smashing Pumpkins manually. Here's a question for you: Do you work for Spotify? If you don't answer then I will no longer respond as it's getting nowhere. Much as I love the service, getting a response from Spotify is frustrating to say the least.
