My Question or Issue
After the latest update earlier today (1.1.79.763.gc2965cdf), there's a bug in the desktop version for Windows. Steps to replicate it:
1. Start Spotify.
2. Search for Song A.
3. Play Song A in its entirety.
4. Search for Song B.
5. Play Song B.
Expected behaviour would be for Song B to start playing once you click the play button on the top result card. What's been happening instead is that when you click play for Song B, Song A starts to play again.
This only started happening after the update. But it didn't happen right away. It worked fine the first few times and then it broke. Reinstallation did not fit it: works a few times and then it replays the previously played track as usual.
Solved! Go to Solution.
It appears that this bug has been patched in the previous update as I haven't encountered it since then.
Hey @circline,
Thanks for flagging this with us.
We tried reproducing this on our end, but we're unable to recreate on Spotify for Windows
1.1.79.763.gc2965cdf. We followed the steps you've suggested:
1. Started Spotify.
2. Searched for https://open.spotify.com/track/2V9Q1X58arUinVvBfuHHPz:small and clicked the Top Result on the top left to start playback.
3. Played the song in its entirety.
4. Searched for https://open.spotify.com/track/67Hna13dNDkZvBpTXRIaOJ:small
5. Clicked the Top Result on the top left to start playback.
Teardrop started playing as expected.
Can you let us know if you're using the Spotify app from the MS store or the one from our website? Also, can you reproduce this every time? It would be great if you can also upload a video of the issue. You can add it as an attachment to your reply or as a link to an external video sharing platform like YouTube.
Keep us posted!
I am using the one from the Spotify website, not the other one from the Microsoft app store.
I couldn't replicate it each time earlier but in the process of making a video for you, I discovered a way to reliably replicate it each time.
1. Search for Song A.
2. Click the play button on the top result for Song A.
3. While still on the search results page, pause the song after it plays for a couple of seconds.
3. Search for Song B.
4. Click the play button on the top result for Song B.
Expected behaviour would be for Song B to start playing. Observed behaviour is that Song A resumes playing from where it was paused.

At the beginning of the video, Yakety Axe by Chet Atkins is playing. I pause it. Search for Grandma's Hands by Bill Withers and click the play button on the top result. The first time I do that, it just un-pauses Yakety Axe. The second time I click play, it starts playing Grandma's Hands like it is supposed to.
I suspect you'll be able to replicate it this time. Even if you don't get the same result each time, you should be able to get it a few times at the very least.
Hi @circline,
Thanks for sharing this video! It helped us understand the issue and we were also able to recreate it on our end.
We've now reported this to our tech folks, who'll investigate further. At this point, we aren't able to provide a timeline for a fix, but if there's any updates on the matter, rest assured we'll let you know.
Thanks again for trying to make Spotify better.
Stay awesome!
Thanks for the update.
