Connecting to Chromecast from Windows Desktop Client

Solved!

Connecting to Chromecast from Windows Desktop Client

When I want to use spotify connect to connect to my chromecast, I need to use my android phone/tablet versionn of spotify to connect first, then take over that connect session from my desktop client. It's imposible to directly connect to the chromecast from my desktop client

Steps to reproduce the issue:

  1. Start Spotify on phone
  2. Connect to my Chromecast
  3. Start Spotify on my desktop. It automaticly connects to the connect session between my phone and Chromecast
  4. Kill Spotify on phone
  5. Use desktop client to control Chromecast

What steps you’ve tried already:

No devices are shown in the "choose device to play to" button on desktop client. Chromecast is found on phone

Your device and operating system (e.g. MacBook Air, 10.10 OSX)

Windows 10 I7 based computer / Samsung S6 android smartphone

Type of Spotify account you have (Free/ Premium):

Premium

The app version of Spotify you’re using:

1.0.15.133.gf21970bd

Best regards

Whats a sdk?

Whats a sdk?

SDK is a akronym for software development Kit. It's a collection of libraries that empower the developer to access the specific piece of tecnology. In this context the google cast framework that govererns access to the Chromecast family of devices.

g3minii: Where are these SDK's... Google Cast SDK has not been updated with windows libraries to my knowledge.

It's **bleep** actuallly.

Wait, I couldn't find the casting option for the Spotify Web Player.

I couldn't find the casting option for the spotify web player.

Use Chrome as web browser
And use the Cast option in the browser, you may need to install

That does not work.. since spotify runs as a program you cant launch the
chromecast extention

Please use the web player.

The web player can NOT connect to chromecast audio

The web player is useless and you can't do anything else while it runs.

Strange, for me it works with Chromecast Audio

I'm running windows 10 on my PC and use google chrome with extension for Chromecast installed. To start casting use the chromecast icon in the browser upper right corner, it works, not great as Badja pointed out

"The web player is useless and you can't do anything else while it runs."

I agree, however since spotify cannot fix it it can be used as a workaround, I have the spotify program installed to edit playlists and as long as I do not start a new song I can have both open simultaneously

Once you use the proper app via Chromecast that you can connect using a
mobile phone you won't really bother with Spotify Web because the proper
Chromecast is far superior. The Web application drops out and freezes
all the time particularly if you try to use any other application on
your PC (in my case laptop). It's great when you connect via a mobile. A
good as Stan, Netflix or Utube or Facebook Video (although that later
doesn't work so well for me). Once you have connected via a mobile you
can use it independently on your laptop and even turn off the mobile but
once you logoff your Windows you lose the connection and have to find a
mobile again. I don't own a mobile, so have to borrow one. I like to
stream my music while I do other things on my laptop. I'm not talking
about Chromecast Audio, I know nothing about that.

It's just annoying, this connect via a mobile and then you can stream
properly. It seems one annoying step from being able to stream properly
like Netfilx, which competes very competently with free to air TV in our
household these days.

Of course you can use a HDMI cable, as I did in the past but that's a
nuisance too and you are tied to your system.

For your interest my video Chromecast is in a HDMI input in my 5.1
receiver where it works very well, not in my TV.

I just earned a gold star for my contribution (like in Kindy). I would prefer they fixed the problem.

Bump. This is still a problem and the only solution. It is now January 18, 2017 with the latest Spotify update version 1.0.45.186.g3b5036d6. They still have not corrected this. Sigh.

Same here 😕

Only the "Use Mobile-App to stream to chromecast and then Desktop-Client can connect" workaround works.

That's right but it's not good enough.

Thats what I wanted to say.... It "works" most of the time, but its not comfort in any way.

You may, but it wrecks the sound quality!
