Desktop app crashes when I download things in Chrome

Lately whenever I start a download in Chrome, the Spotify app crashes. I am using the desktop application, not the web player, so there shouldn't be any interaction between the two. The music doesn't just stop, the entire Spotify application just immediately crashes without even an error message. I'm using version 1.0.59.395.ge6ca9946, Windows 10, Chrome Version 59.0.3071.115 (Official Build) (64-bit).

I have found that this also happens if I just move files around on my hard drive.

Same problem here... Even when I delete anything from a file.. spotify crashes in the background.
Re-installed, restarted the PC.. it still crashes if i download, delete a file or move a file.

never seen anything like this.

any help out there?
