My Question or Issue

I've noticed that the listening activity is not updating properly. I have it on 2 Windows laptops and one of them would show that a friend is currently listening to a song, the other one will show that the last activity was 30 minutes ago. Also, whenever I turn my laptop on from sleep mode, the activity would be frozen until I close and re-open the app. Is there a solution to this?

Hey there @foodie_love

Thanks for reaching out about this.

We'd first recommend performing a clean reinstall of the app. This is often an overlooked step, but it can be helpful to get rid of any corrupted files that might be causing issues.

If this doesn't do the trick, could you ask a friend or a family member to log in to their personal account using your device to see if they can replicate this?

We'll keep an eye out for your reply.

Hi @Novy @foodie_love

I believe this is an issue on Spotify's end as I am facing the same issue on my laptop. For example, a friend's activity will not update properly and their activity will be stuck on 17minutes ago for a long time. It is only until I relog back onto the account that the friend activity will update.

I have already performed a clean reinstall of the app. When will there be a fix for this?

Thanks!

Hi @kezhang

Thanks for reaching out about this.

If possible, could you ask a friend or a family member to log in to their personal account using your device to see if they can replicate this?

You could also give it a try using another internet connection.

Keep us posted.

Hi @Novy

I have done both and have had issues with different internet connections and different accounts unfortunately.

Hi again @kezhang

Thanks for keeping us in the loop.

Could you let us know the exact Spotify version you're currently running?

It would also be helpful to know your device's make, model and OS version.

We'll be right here.

Hi @Novy,

I am running Spotify on a Lenovo ideapad 330-14IGM laptop and am using Windows 10. I believe it is the latest version of Spotify as this issue only started happening once the new UI was implemented and this was rolled out for me yesterday morning.

Have you had any luck finding what the issue is or what the fix is for it? Seems like a few users are also experiencing the same issue.

Thanks!

It's an issue on Spotifys end. Can we have an ETA as to when this will be fixed?

Hey folks,

Thanks for getting back to us.

@kezhang, in this case, we'd recommend giving these steps a try in order to check your host files.

@tommy1o1, could you let us know which troubleshooting steps you've already tried? This will help us give you better suggestions.

I bought new hardware, reinstalled windows, cleaned out my electricity sockets, tidied my wires, reinstalled spotify 7 times, bought a new router, used 3 different VPN providers, waited 12 hours and tried one last time. It still doesn't show my friends under the "Friend Activity" section on the right side.

Hi @tommy1o1

Thanks for this info.

Could you send over a screenshot where we can take a better look at what you're seeing from your end?

You can attach it using the Insert Photos option in the post editor. Make sure to exclude any personal info from it.

We'll be on the lookout.

Been like this since I started using the new client (yesterday), there is multiple forum posts regarding this.

Hey @tommy1o1

Thanks for the quick reply.

Looks like you're experiencing this issue. Although we're not able to provide an exact timeline for a fix, the right folks are looking into this.

We'd suggest that you keep your Spotify app up to date so you don't miss the latest improvements and fixes.

Hi @Novy,

I have read through the instructions you linked but it isn't applicable for me as there were no entries with spotify or fastly in the address.

Just to be clear, my issue is not with my friend feed missing. As the original poster mentioned, the friend activity is not updating and so for example a friend's activity will say last seen 17minutes ago and will not update as time goes by. It will only update once you restart the app or relog back onto the Spotify account. This is a very specific issue and is not the same as my friend activity missing.

It only began when the app was updated and I am very confident it is an issue on Spotify's end. Please let me know if the developers are looking into a fix?

Thanks!

Hey @kezhang

Thanks for getting back to us.

Not to worry, we understand that your issue is different and we'd like to try a few more things just to cover the basics.

We'd recommend making sure that your device has enough free storage available.

If possible, you could also give it a try using a different PC to see if you notice any difference.

Let us know how it goes.
