Many apps use this file, and many people alter this file,

eighter unnowingly or with some intent.

But having: open.spotify.com 127.0.0.1

in your hosts file is really bad idea.
This will cause ssl errors, if you have some ssl auth servers/daemons/services

on your machine. =>

Many topics here filled with complaints about Spotify web player: insecure connection.

Most likely caused by this.
Please, add this to your F.A.Q about errors or something.
