How to permanently turn off smart shuffle?

How to permanently turn off smart shuffle?

My Question or Issue

I just noticed that a new "smart shuffle mode" putting unwanted "smart recommendations" in my queue was added to my desktop app. How to turn it off permanently or at least make this "smart shuffle mode" not default? The perfect scenario would be not seeing this option at all but having it not turned on by default when I choose shuffle mode, without a need to additionally turn it off each time would be enough.

Please help, this feature is really driving me insane and I absolutely HATE IT. If currently there is no option to permanently turn it off (globally or for chosen playlists), is adding it planned? When?

not solved!! option is not on desktop version, only mobile!!

i don’t have it on my phone or my desktop. Maybe it’s rolling out and some people have it and others don’t yet?

your answer sounds great but the option to turn any kind of smart shuffle is not listed at all. where are you getting this? I’m in the US and it’s definitely not on my phone and computer Spotify apps. Definitely not solved here!

I definitely have it on my android
the settings text is below

Include Smart Shuffle in play modes
Turning this off will remove the Smart Shuffle option. You'll still be able
to use other play modes, like Play in order or Shuffle.

maybe this is an Apple issue now?  i have an iphone and macbook pro

Thank you!!! I'm surprised more people haven't seen this comment.

I couldn't find it in the Mac desktop app.
However, I did find it in the Android mobile app.

this needs to be added to desktop asap

Hey!

I found a turn around to fix it, but it depends if you're willing to use third party tools on your Spotify app. I don't recommend doing something if you're not sure if you can.

Search for Spicetify, that is a command line tool, in the web and follow the instructions to install it. Make sure that you have Spotify in your pc intalled from the Spotify Setup, not that one from Microsoft Store. I don't recommed installing the Spicetify Marketplace since it's not usefull for what we are trying to fix here.

After installing this tool, open Spotify normally and click on your profile, you will notice a new option called "Experimental Features", clicking on it and a lot of options will appear, go to the search bar on the top and search for "Shuffle" and you will find an option to disable the Smart Shuffle.

I hope this helps! To be honest, I considered leaving Spotify after some "features" got removed and others added. It's been quite some time that the Smart Shuffle can be disable on mobile version but not on desktop.

As long as they "explain" their solution they consider it solved. Apparently because it works on mobile that is good enough for them to consider it solved. I highly doubt they will ever implement it for desktop, youre better off spending your money on a different music service at this point. Spotify is NOT interested in using feedback from it's users to improve its service.

Hey folks,

The setting to turn off Smart Shuffle will be coming to the desktop app in a future update.

This question is marked as solved, but it is not. When I listen on desktop (which is about half of my use of the app), there is no option to turn off this "feature". And to be clear, this has nothing to do with "shuffle" - it's an egregious attempt by whichever Spotify team is responsible for shoving "suggestions" down our throats to hijack a basic feature of the music player to increase "engagement". Well, I'm engaged now. I think what I'm engaged in is looking for another music streaming platform that doesn't do this.

Hey @kislyuk

The setting to turn off Smart Shuffle will be coming to the desktop app in a future update. Right now this setting is only available in the mobile app.

Okay, but WHY can't we get rid of this terrible feature on the computer????

Smart shuffle is one of the worst features in Spotify history. I don't want these songs in my playlist; I would have added them if I did. Having to skip a song every few songs is incredibly annoying. And even more annoying one a free Spotify plan when this uses up 1 of your 6 free skips per hour. **bleep** feature. This might make me move to Apple music.

Also, the underlying issue might be (this happened to me) this option is activated by default in the phone, so every time you switch listening devices it will reactivate on it's own (until you disable it permanently in your phone with the above instructions). This is why you sometimes have Spotify put the smart shuffle and sometimes not: if you try to remember you'll see it's happened everytime you go to the computer after using Spotify on the phone.

Shuffle Play feature needs to be removed on the mobile app. There’s no need for this feature as you put ads on everytime we play a song. Shuffle play feature makes the Spotify mobile app useless for people on a free plan.

When will this be rolled out to the desktop application??

Still waiting for the desktop app to be updated. This "feature" is one of the worst idea they ever had.

Hey Spotify, when can we expect this feature to become available on the desktop app? Right now it's basically unusable with the smart shuffle.
Do you have a better indication of ETA than "in a future update"?
