My Question or Issue
Hello. Myself and my partner are trying to have a music night. I'm in London, she is in Germany. We have previously used the Jam function to do this however tonight it is not working - it is not syncing. I can't see what she is adding to queue and vice versa. When I play/pause the music, it does nothing on her end and vice versa. Please advise as this has worked fine before but is not working at all now. Nothing online has worked, we both have the latest version of Spotify installed, it makes no sense whatsoever.
Hey @joeprileszky,
Thanks for reaching out to the Spotify Community about this!
Just to make sure that we're on the same page - were you the one hosting the Jam or was it your partner? If you're both Premium users, did you try changing the host to see if it makes any difference?
If you're still experiencing the issue, can you both log out and back in a few times in a row to check if it changes anything? Something else you can try is clearing your cache and restarting Spotify.
In case the issue persists, you can let us know what else you've tested so far and send us your Spotify versions, so we can investigate further.
We'll be looking forward to your reply.
Hey @joeprileszky,
Thanks for sending some more info.
Do you only experience this on your computers or also when you're using your phones?
Also, we suspect that there might be a sync issue due to content availability. Since you're in different countries, some tracks might not be available for one of you. We recommend that you check what worked for the author of this post.
Lastly, you mentioned that you've reinstalled the app, can you confirm if you did a complete clean reinstall as described here? Additionally, did you download Spotify from the Spotify site or from the Microsoft Store? You can try both options to see if anything changes.
Keep us posted on how it goes.
Hello Iva
The issue is experienced on computer as this is the device we are both using to talk to each other. While it may work on mobile devices, we are both on our PCs so using it on our phones is useless to us.
It is not an availability issue. We have tried a variety of music, the music we have tried is available to both of us and this would also not explain why the non-host can't perform the most basic of Jam functions such as adding to the queue. The "solution" in your linked post is unfortunately irrelevant and not useful. We spent hours last night looking for a solution, this was one of the articles we read.
Yes, a clean install is what we have both done.
Hey @joeprileszky,
Thanks for the update.
One thing we haven't tested yet is whether the issue could be related to the current internet connection. As a troubleshooting step, could you please try connecting the affected devices through a different network, such as a mobile hotspot or USB tethering from your phone? If you have a VPN installed, make sure that it's turned off.
After switching to the alternative connection, test the Jam feature again and let us know if the behavior changes.
Cheers,
Hi again, @joeprileszky
Thanks for coming back to us!
The Jam might work better if the participants are not connected to a smart speaker, TV, Bluetooth headphones, or some other device via Spotify Connect or Bluetooth while setting up the Jam. Temporarily, switch playback output on both participant's devices back to This Computer to establish the initial sync.
Also, if both or any of the devices' Bluetooth is active, try turning it off on each device, to see if it makes a difference.
Let us know how it goes!
