Lyrics feature unavailable

Hey Community!

Just a heads up that our Lyrics feature on desktop is currently unavailable as we're making some big improvements to the feature. We'll share more updates soon. 

We can also confirm our partnership with Musixmatch is ending. It was a great partnership and there is mutual respect between both companies as our business strategies move us each in different directions.

iOS users can get lyrics and annotations on some tracks via our partnership with Genius. Check out the info here!

It was ridiculous how the lyrics function was so abruptly taken away without any announcement beforehand. You guys said you were "making changes", but now the lyrics button is even conveniently gone.

The function is a big part of why I paid for premium. And there are so many users on Spotify Desktop. It was stupid to not extend the agreement with Musixmatch... Think I'll just take my money elsewhere if there are no real improvements made.

Already coded myself a program that gets the song playing and automatically searches it on musixmatch. Sadly it hasn live lyrics.

Spotify, it was a bad decision to cancel your partnership and remove the feature.

NOBODY wants your darn improvement.

Everything was fine until you started to destroy the client.

Will you remove the music too to improve it?

WE, the USERS of product, that would be nothing without us users, didnt ask for this. There is no need to improve something working fine.

We have music, we have friends, we had lyrics and the notification bell.

This was fine. Everything was perfect and good. You could offer a button to see the offical video and add lyrics and mobile.

Besides from that, nothing was missing. Why are you removing everything?

Bring back the darn lyrics and dont improve them. There is nothing you can improve on some lines of text that are synchron with the song. Change != good.

It is annoying, add the lyrics again or i will stop using Spotify Premium.

Musicxmatch cancelled the partnership, not spotify. The only problems with spotify I can see is lack of clear communication and the constant dumbing down of our favourite features.

Indeed. I will never understand Spotify users:

• MusixMatch ends a partnership
• People complain that Spotify "decided to remove lyrics" because they won't listen to users

So guys tell us: what should have Spotify done? Raid the MusixMatch offices with machine guns and force them to subscribe a new partnership? I guess that wouldn't work in the long run. 😉

Did you guys read MusixMatch's reply on page 2? If no then please go read it. He did not mention explicitly but it seems like Spotify wants MusixMatch to only provide lyrics for them. MusixMatch declines as they want to provide lyrics to everyone else which leads to them deciding to end the contract.

Looks like the lyrics tab has also been completely removed. No news update for a month then this. They really should fire their PR team.

Just got a new "upate."  I was hoping to see the end of the "humming is fun" message when I click the Lyrics button.  Well, that happened.  There is no Lyrics button anymore.

It's getting silly now. I'm paying the same monthly price for less. I'll give it one more month without news before I look into other options.

Really wish the lyrics would come back I really miss them I was kinda disappointed after updating only to see the lyrics button had completely disappeared really losing hope over the lyrics reappearing this makes having premium not really worth it....

I was ready to cancel my subscription with Spotify because the lyrics were removed from desktop Spotify. I chose Spotify because of in-application lyrics and genre/playlist classification that suit my preferences. So it is a big issue to lose the lyrics.

The only reason that I am still with Spotify is that the new Family pricing was introduced the same day that I went to cancel my subscription. Instead I upgraded to the family subscription because other family members like to use Spotify.

But the lack of lyrics remains a serious issue for me and I will leave if lyrics are not provided soon.

Why haven't we had another update now that a month has passed? I have noticed that Spotify provide very little useful communication on issues that concern users.

I just signed up for Premium thinking that would give me the lyrics also.  If lyrics are not back on Spotify SOON, I will cancel my subscription.  Please return lyrics option ASAP, like NOW.

I'm thinking in do the same, i love that feauture that now is missing, at least spotify should give us a discount for that missing feature, i'm feeling that spotify is incomplete now.
