Me and many other people that I have seen on the Community have been faced with the same bug: the 'Show desktop overlay while using media keys' option on Spotify isn't working correctly. When I open Spotify, the client acts as if the option is checked, but in Preferences it is unchecked. Enabling and disabling the setting turns it off for that session, but upon closing and opening Spotify, the media overlay turns on again.
This started happening for me since the latest update to the client to this version:
1.0.94.262.g3d5c231c
Everytime I have had the client shut down it starts showing the media keys again, even though they show as disabled in the preferences.
Same issue here.. Pls fix it
Spotify 1.0.94.262.g3d5c231c
Windows 10 PRO 17763
Is there an ETA on this? I've seen frequent updates without a fix and the nature of this problem really sounds like something a dev can solve in a day or two.
@Katerina I performed a clean uninstall as described in your post, and then installed the latest version found on your download section (not using Windows Store apps). The version I installed was 1.0.94.262.g3d5c231c, and I then updated it to version 1.0.95.289.g342899da.
Unfortunately this did not solve the issue. After disabling the media overlay, it will stay disabled for the rest of your Spotify session. As soon as you close down Spotify (File -> Exit) and re-open it, then the overlay is back even though the setting is still set to off. I need to toggle the option back on, and then off again before the overlay is gone once more.
Yep, still happening! Sort it out Spotify.
And by sort it out, we mean:
1) Respond to us
2) Fix the problem
3) Issue it in the next release
Allowing us to sound off when you might well not even be reading this is poor for a service that we are PAYING for.
This should literally take like 30 minutes to fix. 29.9 minutes of that would be finding where it gets turned on at every launch, and 2 seconds to remove the line that ignores the user's preference and automatically sets it to on.
Well its clear by now that spotify dont care they just want thier money! If they dont fix untill end of this month, **bleep** IT im leaving**bleep** company that dont care about thier customers!
Gotta admit. Spotify devs really are rubbish. This bug has been on and off for months.
And on a related note of rubbish devs, why can we still not add our local music to library without going through that painful loophole. The loophole shows it works so why after over a year is this not added.
Apple Music entices me more and more each day.
Still present on 1.0.95.289.g342899da
The problem still exsists.
Windows 10 Pro x64 newest stable release
Spotify v. 1.0.95.289.g342899da (Windows Store)
please fix this. windows 10 spotify 1.0.95.289.g342899da
Im leaving spotify beacuse of this!
Shithole company!
The overlay won't go away and causes lag, it's been +6months................................
I have the same issue.
Enabling and re-disabling the option in the settings solves the problem temporarily. Closing and re-opening Spotify, the overlay reappears again, even though the option in the settings is still disabled.
Problem still occurs.
I go to settings and disable "Show desktop overlay when using media keys". It works - the overlay is disabled.
I close spotify (using the x, nothing fancy) and open it again. The overlay now appears when using media keys.
In settings the setting is still disabled, so I have to enable it and disable it again for it to actually be disabled.
Has happened consistently for months, over multiple versions. Last week I uninstalled Spotify and did a clean install using the downloadable installer, but it did not fix the issue.
Version: 1.0.95.289.g342899da
Can we please get this bug fixed. It's driving me insane.
Appears to be fixed in 1.0.96.181.gf6bc1b6b
How do you get this version ? I don't have an option to update.
Still there after update!½!!!
