My Question or Issue

I am having problems on many platforms, but it started on Windows.

After listening to a jam with my friend, my Spotify app would only play songs that my friend added to the queue even though the jam ended several days ago. Pressing play on a song or a playlist does nothing. The skip forward and skip backward buttons do nothing. I can only press play and click on the progress bar to skip through the song. I restarted, checked for updates, tried a clean install, still had this issue.

Then I tried the Google Chrome web player to see if the problem persisted. I picked a playlist that has 3 songs, but then it started cycling through the songs extremely quickly. Each song was playing for a fraction of a second before skipping to the next one. Then it went to another playlist and it is still having the same problem where I cannot change the song or playlist. Now my entire history looks like this and I still have the original problem.

Then I tried on my phone. I had the same problem, but the difference was that when I pressed the skip forward or skip backward buttons it would visually change (different lyrics, artist, album art, etc) while still playing the music of the starting song. It would also skip back to the beginning at exactly 60 seconds in.

This has been going on for quite a while. Is anyone able to help?

I think I may have figured out the problem. I was experiencing issues with my AudioTechnica 2020USB+ microphone, and I found a post by someone else saying that it was the cause of their Spotify issues. I followed steps posted here and disabled the USB Input Device with hardware ID: USB\VID_0909&PID_001C&REV_0100&MI_03, USB\VID_0909&PID_001C&MI_03 in device manager and the problem seems to be fixed. I'll update if it returns, but for now this seems to be the solution. It is absolutely crazy that a microphone would be causing so many seemingly unrelated issues.

Hey there @Hertz30,

Thanks for reaching out here in the Community.

This is odd. Would you mind sending over a video or a screen recording where we can take a better look at the behavior on both devices? You can attach them to your next response by using the Insert Video option in the post editor, or you could upload them to Google Drive and send a link (make sure to give it the relevant permissions so we can watch it from our end).

In addition to this, could you let us know if the same thing happens when you log into a different account on any of the affected devices?

We'll be on the lookout.

After I posted this question the problem disappeared for almost 2 weeks and just reappeared today. I am honestly unsure if it was because of the jam, but music also started playing on PC startup.

I have been unable to recreate the issue on mobile and I don't have another account to test. Here is the video: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1d0LAKYuEQJK9steA-Wuwp3B9xOTcaVAp?usp=sharing

Thanks for the response @Hertz30.

When the issue re-appeared, did you notice what caused it? Did you start another Jam session?

If you haven't already done this, make sure to clear the corrupted cached files within the app on PC as they can cause different issues with the performance. You can check out the steps here.

On another note, I also recommend deleting the app version you're currently using on your computer and then downloading Spotify either from our website or from the Microsoft Store (whichever version you weren't using). It's worth testing if it would behave any different.

If the issue persists, it'd be very helpful if you could ask a relative or a friend to log in to their account in the app on your computer. This will help us determine if it's an account-related issue.

When it comes to music starting to play upon PC startup, make sure to go to Settings > Startup and window behavior > set the button to No next to Open Spotify automatically after you log into the computer.

Appreciate the cooperation and hope to hear from you soon.
