My Question or Issue
My laptop and desktop have been updated to the most recent Spotify app update. I tried following one of my friends and their listening activity is not showing up on the right column. My friend who was already following them is able to see their listening activity using the previous update (his Spotify desktop app has not been updated yet). This is not working for some of my other friends who have their listening activity turned on. Yes, I have logged out and back in, uninstalled, and reinstalled the app before coming to the community about this issue. Anybody experiencing this or know what's going on?
Exact same thing happening to me!!! It was working before my client updated
You should be able to see my friends activity in the image below. I updated my client and now it just shows this, almost as if I'm not following anyone or something:
I'm currently having the same issue, the new UI does not show the Friend Activity section even though I already had the feature turned on.
Yeah.... i hope they fix this today
Me too. I will update this thread if anything changes. If anyone else's desktop spotify app starts to work, just let us all know here in this thread and we'll keep an eye out for it.
thanks y'all
I installed windows 7 on my pc and the friend activity issue is now fixed. It's something to do with the new client/windows 10.
Hey everyone,
Thanks for searching for the answer you need here!
Could you confirm if you still experience this after performing a clean reinstall of the app on your device? This is different than a regular reinstall in terms of removing corrupted data that could be causing the issue you observe.
If you see no difference after the clean reinstall, check your hosts file for entries that need to be deleted. Follow the steps described here on how you can do that.
Keep us posted! We'll be here if you have any questions.
Hello Ivan,
I have indeed performed the clean install with the %AppData% prompt. I just checked my hosts and I had nothing with spotify.

Hey there @tht1brownkid,
Thanks for your reply.
We'd suggest that you head over to Settings > Display > See what your friends are playing and make sure this option is toggled on. After that, restart the app and check if that makes any difference.
If it doesn't, would you mind sending us the exact make/model, operating system and Spotify version of your device?
We'll be on the lookout.
Hello Eni,
I have my friends activity turned on, unfortunately, refreshing the app did not resolve the issue.
Make and model:
HP Pavilion 24-a010 & Aspire 5 Laptop (I have this issue on both of my computers)
Operating System:
Windows 10
Spotify Version:
Unfortunately, I don't know the actual version but it is definitely is the newest update with the newest homepage layout.
Use windows 7, if you want. Friend activity works fine there 😀
Hi there @tht1brownkid,
Thanks for your reply.
Could you let us know if the issue persists using a different internet connection? You can create a hotspot on your phone and using that.
On another note, could you try unfollowing your friends whose listening activity you can't see > restart the app > then follow them again?
Let us know how it goes.
Hello Eni,
Unfortunately, I do no have access to a mobile hotspot. I have been unfollowing my friends, restarting the app, and following my friends every since this issue started.
Hey @tht1brownkid,
Thanks for getting back in touch.
In this case, we suggest that you try reinstalling the app again on your PC, but this time while in Safe mode to check if that makes the difference.
If it doesn't, would you mind trying to follow your friends again from a different device such as a phone?
Keep us in the loop.
This has unfortunately locked me out of my laptop. I’m telling you it’s something with the update
Friends activity is gone. Following/follower is gone!
Hey there you, Yeah, you! 😁 Welcome - we're glad you joined the Spotify Community! While you here, let's have a fun game and get…
