My Question or Issue

Update 1.0.83.318 broke the proxy function completely (on Windows 10).

I have set the proxy properly, tried a reinstall, cleared and re-entered the proxy.

I have to rely on a proxy and can't use spotify since the update.

There is a similar thread regarding the MacOS client in this forum: https://community.spotify.com/t5/Desktop-Mac/App-always-offline-even-with-correct-proxy-settings/m-p...

Please fix this asap.

I have the same problem.

When I bypass proxy through VPN service then it works, so this must be this.

Please fix it.

Same problem here...

I use a proxy without authentication.

One additional info: I am using a proxy server with authentication enabled.

I use proxy without authentication, so it does not matter

Any news on this issue?

It's been quite a few days that I have been unable to use Spotify on my workplace.

I am a Network Engineer in charge of a proxy server in our environment.   I am seeing the same issue using a Windows 7 PC and Spotify v1.0.83.318.g6c07039d.

From Wireshark packet capture I have found the following:

Spotify began using an alternate port (other than 80/443) to connect to (now 4070) for server 104.154.126.63.   If your proxy server is not configured to pass connections other than to 80/443 than you will need to have your proxy server admin add this.   This portion seems to enable the application to download your playlists, new music of the day info and other web page graphic information.

The music stream however still does not work after making that change.   For that I am seeing a connection attempt to ip 35.186.224.62.   This is broken because that connection does NOT attempt to use the proxy server but tries to make a direct connection.

I have not tried using any of the other proxy settings other than HTTP as that is what we have configured in our environment.

If I remove the proxy settings and allow my test machine to connect directly to the Internet the Spotify functions normally.

IMO the use of alternate ports (typically considered security by obscurity) causes more issues than it helps.   I would ask that Spotify go back to using standard http/https ports and to fix their music streaming code to work again with the proxy settings.

Thanks for point that out (with the alternative port). Using other than 80/443 port is blocking for me and my colleagues to use app at work. I cannot change that.

ps.

I also find out that Spotify app doesn't care about the system connection settings and the connection is probed through proxy (when it is turned on or off - actually it does not matter for app) and direct connection. App uses best connection it found. So if I turn on proxy on windows and block on proxy side any traffic, then app will use direct connection if there is such possibility. Looks clever.

I have the same issue since Friday. Spotify should definitely go back to standard http(s) ports.

I have no idea why, but when I changed proxy settings in the app to "Auto detect" it started to work... Let see how long...

However not everything works... my artists are not loaded well.

same issue here, we use a Proxy software and do not allow non -standard ports so it broke on the upgrade.

I had two machines running the app, so one had not been upgraded, so I backed up and restored that version and all is working.

so it seems 1.0.82.447 worked but 1.0.83.318 does not.

I just keep restoring the 82 version everytime the app tries to update.

Hope they fix this soon.

Lucky you, that you still have a 1.0.82 lying around, all my installations got upgraded 😞

Is there a way to explicitly download older versions of the app?

Every release is breaking this functionality?

What are doing there. This is nothing what is often changing. Just let a working implementation or make it open source then I fix myself.

Using https://open.spotify.com is a pita. Please fix the proxy issues and I would really like to not add 4070 to the proxy allow list if I can avoid it. I know http/https has additional overhead but don't really have much choice if you require to use a proxy.

Same here. Auto Detect ist not working either, so the only way to use Spotify right now is by using the web player. Not so cool, given that Spotify is so proud of its huge engineering crowd.

The web player is not only pita to use, the audio quality is horrible as well!

Using a non-standard port through proxy means essentially blocking all corporate users since that port obviously will not be allowed through a corporate HTTP proxy.

This is also not so cool as Spotify is a paid service which is now completely broken at my workplace.

Auto detect never worked for me. Although it is configured in the Windows settings.

The most annoying thing is, that obviously quite a few users are suffering from this change and this has not been acknowledged by Spotify in any way.

After all, this is a paid service, and the lack of support is really disheartening.

People have been reporting this on twitter to @SpotifyCares who seems to be less than helpful...

So annoying... I need this fixed... I pay for Spotify Premium and then I cant use it? I am 99% of the time I am online behind a proxy... Started bugging out like a week and a half ago
