My Question or Issue
Update 1.0.83.318 broke the proxy function completely (on Windows 10).
I have set the proxy properly, tried a reinstall, cleared and re-entered the proxy.
I have to rely on a proxy and can't use spotify since the update.
There is a similar thread regarding the MacOS client in this forum: https://community.spotify.com/t5/Desktop-Mac/App-always-offline-even-with-correct-proxy-settings/m-p...
Please fix this asap.
Same here, we are paying for this app, which we cannot use.... Great!
Currently using a work around. Installed an old client I downloaded from https://spotify.en.uptodown.com/windows/download/1698576 and I have remove permissions (remove inheritance) from SpotifyLauncher in %APPDATA%\Spotify to hopefully stop the auto-update.
Thank you!
Perfect - thanks!!
It's really incredible how they seem to ignore this posts alltogether. There's another one about loosing offline songs in android and it's months (nov 2017 at the least) of this issue and they don't even tell that they are working on it.
So get ready to work this thing around for a couple o month
Yes, this is totally not up to the standards that a paid premium service should provide.
I have noticed that there is a new version 1.0.84 but couldn't test it yet, has anyone tried out version 1.0.84?
At least the HTTP Proxy Option made it back to 0.84 (this was missing in 0.83, right?!), but it's not working in our cooperate setup either. Most likely because our proxy is blocking connections to remote ports other than 80 / 443 without using tools like corkscrew.
So this is broken again. Time to switch to some other payed streaming service maybe.
*sigh* Spotify is still updating. Have to reinstall everytime I reboot the computer (not often).
Really hope it gets fixed soon. Worrying that spotify doesn't operate a proxy themselves in their environment.
Same here. I'm behind a company proxy and cannot access spotify. Since of today even the web player doesn't work. Since I'm only using Spotify at work, this renders the service unusable to me.
How can this issue not be acknowledged for this long???
I think we deserve a proper answer to this problem, even if they state that this won't be reversed.
Guys, it seems that we need to take this issue directly to Spotify support.
Go to https://support.spotify.com/contact-spotify-support/ and click through the site until you reach the support contact form.
I have entered the following text (feel free to copy it in your support request):
Hello,
since version 1.0.83 Spotify uses non-standard Port 4070 through Proxy. This is essentially blocking all corporate users behind a proxy, because non-standard ports are usually blocked in a corporate environment.
Please check the forums, there are a lot of people who are experiencing the same problem: https://community.spotify.com/t5/Desktop-Windows/Proxy-not-working-since-1-0-83-318/td-p/4513939/hig...
Please advise
Maybe if they receive enough support tickets, something will happen.
I just received a reply from an actual human being:
Hi there,
Thank you for getting in touch. We will be happy to provide you with more information about Spotify and internet connectivity.
You can either consult with your IT department to modify their port settings, if possible, or use the web browser for the moment.
Our technical team is looking into this and we hope there will be an update coming soon.
Do not hesitate to reach out to us if there is something else we might be able to help you with.
Have a good day,

I'm on Mac and am having the same issue.
I'm also the admin of our proxy and tried allowing port tcp/4070 from the proxy to the Internet. No dice, even after restarting the client.
I did notice that against those weird IP-addresses (104.199.x.y), the ports tcp/80 and tcp/443 were also tried, but never sent to the request to the proxy.
I might try more tomorrow.
Edit: heh, just updated from 1.0.42.something to 1.0.84.344.gfc674f6f, same issue.
Yesterday I found out that 1.0.85 was released, but our problem is still not fixed 😞
The new client app on windows and osx now needs to talk to port 4070 as someone previously mentioned. If it can't connect to port 4070 it says that the app is offline.
If you are behind a proxy server, then the proxy server needs to be able to connect to port 4070 via SSL. By default only port 443 and 563 are in the allowed list for SSL, at least for Squid.
To add port 4070 to squid you need to add it to this line:
acl SSL_ports port 443 563 4070
If you are running pfsense with squid it's in:
Services=>Squid Proxy Server=>ACLs=>Squid Allowed ports=>ACL SSLPorts
I hope this helps someone as a workaround.
But it would be better if spotify could fix it in the first place by using the standard SSL port 443.
1.0.86 was released, still not fixed...
thanx this fixed my issue i was openning port on safe ports but i had to open the ssl port now i can listen via the app
There is only one way left to go for me and a bunch of my colleagues. We quit Spotify and move to iTunes. This bug is here since weeks now. No fix and the officials just suggest bullsh*t. Bye. That is enough. I am a long time customer and this is not the first time such things happend.
1.0.87 released
... still not fixed
