Screen freeze after dimming and switching devices

Screen freeze after dimming and switching devices

Hello,

I am experiencing an issue with Spotify on my desktop version (Windows 11). When listening to music in the background and the screen dims, if I switch to another device while the music is still playing, the screen remains black and does not go into sleep mode. There is no response to keyboard shortcuts, and I have to force restart the computer by holding down the power button. It has been happening to me for more than half a year.

This problem only occurs when Spotify is running. If Spotify is not opened, the issue does not happen.

Could you please investigate this issue?

Thank you in advance for your help!

Best regards,
Tsyhapan

Hi there, @tsyhapan,

Thanks for reaching out!

Interesting. I wasn't able to replicate this on my end: when my screen dims and I switch the playback from my phone via the Spotify Connect menu, a few seconds later the screen turns off and my laptop is locked, but I'm still able to unlock it and use it as normal.

Have you tried editing your power plan settings in Windows to see if that helps? There's another thread about Spotify preventing Windows from going to sleep where a user was able to sort it out via the command line, so feel free to check it out and give the steps a try as well.

Something else that comes to mind is reinstalling Spotify from another source: if you downloaded the app from our website, try the version from the Microsoft Store instead, and vice versa.

Let us know how it goes 👍

Hi there,

Thanks a lot for the quick reply!

I haven't changed my power plan settings - I'm using a desktop with the recommended plan. As for audio playback, I also use the YouTube Music app from the Microsoft Store, and I haven’t noticed the same issue there. So I’ll start by reinstalling Spotify from a different source as you suggested and see if that makes a difference.

I'll keep you posted on how it goes.

Thanks again!
