Seeking understanding of local file upload with my new acct.

im trying to grasp the local file bit on spotify. ive just recently downloaded the program and upon my first glance around i noticed "local files" being synced to my acct. 

what is this? is it simular to torrent seeding? does it allow any ccess to file info on my windows pc? harmful or awesome?

any reply would be appreciated. ppl seem stoked on it, im just a bit hesitant.

Spotify will import your local files so that you can listen to them in the same place as Spotify streamed music, but those files are only ever available to you and are not shared or uploaded to the Spotify servers (as that would break copyright).
