Shuffle button doesn't work on Spotify connect

Shuffle button doesn't work on Spotify connect

I'm using Spotify on my laptop to connect to my desktop PC that's actually playing the music. Both are Win 10, both have fresh install of newest Spotify version (non-Windows Store).

 

I cannot use normal shuffle on the laptop, only smart shuffle and non-shuffle. The icon shows normal shuffle being enabled but it uses smart shuffle instead. Then when I change to smart shuffle, the icon changes on the laptop accordingly but queue ofc shows no change as it was already on smart shuffle.

 

From the PC that actually plays the music, I can change shuffle modes normally and my laptop follows whatever I do there. It would make sense somewhat if I couldn't change the shuffle at all, but that only smart shuffle and non-shuffle works is weird.

 

Also seems like changing shuffle mode neither works from Android app, if either shuffle is on from the "master" client I can change it off from the phone but not back to normal shuffle neither smart shuffle. Also I cannot add songs to playlist or remove smart shuffle song suggestions with the + and - buttons through Connect. Seems like Connect just has many problems which is pretty lame considering how longs it's been out.

Thanks for reaching out and for reporting this!
Just to make sure if this affects a single device or all of them via Connect, could you try connecting your PC to the laptop and selecting regular Shuffle with the PC being the "remote"? I'm curious if the same issue would occur with the devices reversed.

 

As a first troubleshooting step you can also try removing the cached data on the laptop to see if that would make a difference.
Log out and back in to the app twice in a row after this to trigger a manual sync of your settings.

It does affect every device i've tried and both ways. Three Windows devices and one android phone. Shuffle modes over Connect just don't change properly or at all. Cleaning cache doesn't help, I've clean reinstalled the app on every device and the behaviour stays the same.

Thanks for the reply and for the extensive troubleshooting you've performed!
We tested the Shuffle behaviour via Connect on our ends and could spot some inconsistencies and errors as well, albeit they weren't always the same and they were not always present. Regardless of this though, your feedback about how the different Shuffle modes carry over via the Connect function is important for us and it will help us make the app better in the future.
