Songs Stop Playing When A Conflicting Software Program is Opened

I'm having a very odd problem with my Spotify desktop version. I am a premium subscriber using Windows 10 and whenever I open a certain program the music stops and the rest of the album cycles though without playing and I get an error message telling me the songs aren't available. The program that is causing this is a Commodore 64 computer emulator that I use to play classic computer games. Spotify works with all the other video game emulators I have except the one for C64. I have had no other issues with Spotify and I'm really enjoying using it but I'd like to get this fixed. Anybody have the same issue with conflicting software and is there a fix?
