My Question or Issue

Since this morning, I've not been able to use the Spotify desktop app. I'm not sure what's happened as it was working just fine last night, and it still works just fine on mobile and web player so it doesn't seem to be an account problem. 

This is what I've tried so far:

Completely clean uninstall and reinstall.
Running as administrator.
Updating Windows.
Logging out and in again.
Rebooting computer.
Checking Hardware Acceleration is enable in app settings.
Restarting Router.
Different Internet Connection.

 

I'm not sure what else to try as there isn't a clear error code of any kind that pops up, no message saying "Spotify can't play this" or anything like that. I click on a song or playlist to play it and the app will open the sidebar but completely blank and nothing will play. If I use the Web Player and try to play through the app the music stops then too. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Shendorious, I find that a similar thing is happening to me at the moment. I can however download things and play in offline mode. Are you able to do that as well?

Yeah, spotify web works completely fine too

Same problem - did all PC network tests, everything fine - Spotify mobile & web are playing just fine, so it's the Windows app

Concerning that its been hours now, numerous forum posts, many tweets and @Spotify hasn't even bothered to announce there is clearly an outage of some sort.   Unacceptable.

I'm glad to hear it's not just me. I've been trying to get mine to work for the last few hours and have tried all the same fixes.  

Switching to offline mode seems to work for the tracks I have downloaded but the same tracks won't play in online mode

Thank you for your posts here in the Community and welcome.

 

We've gotten some reports about this, but it's been fixed by now. If you're still experiencing this situation, try closing and reopening the app. If the issue persists, we'd recommend performing a clean reinstall of the Spotify app. This is more thorough than a quick reinstall and might help. You can also try clearing your Host files by following these steps.

 

If none of that helps, send over the make/model and OS of the device you're using, along with the Spotify version you are currently running.
