I just updated to the newest version of the desktop Spotify, but when I try to close it, instead of running in the background like it previously did, it stops playing and closes like a normal window. Is there a way I can make it run in the background again without having the whole window open?
Same.
Hello there and welcome to the community 🙂
In the new version you can click on the Spotify icon at the top left.
Select 'reduce' and it continues to play in background.
That is not the same as before. You should be able to get it away from bar at the bottom, but you can't now without closing it which is annoying. Is there plans on getting it back to the way it was? I'd like to close the window without turning it off.
Yes I know, it keeps in the task bar.
But, unfortunately, I have no information if that will be fixed in a future update.
Okey, thank you for your reply! Hopefully it will be fixed in the future.
You are welcome
So I´m using a Mac Book Air with the latest Update of Spotify. Whenever I switch my desktops, minimize the spotify window or do anything else that makes Spotify work not in first rank of my monitor, it stops playing after a few seconds and stutters. I think this might have started when I intaled OS X Yosemith a few months ago. Since then, I set up spotify tree times with no further effects. Spotify also stutters when my sceensafer is active.
Anyone else here with the same problem or assumptions for a solution to this problem?
I know this is a late reply, but I was looking for the answer to this today.
In Windows, if you go to the System tray, and then right click on the Spotify Icon, you can select Minimize to tray. This will reduce "close" the app in your taskbar, but Spotify will continue to run in the background.
I'm not sure how to complete this in iOS or Linux.
Better late than never. It's exactly 1 year later and this issue is till not fixed.
Thanks for this workaround. It kinda does what it does but still... It takes 3 clicks (on extemely small screen elements) to get rid of the window instead of 1.
Hope this gets fixed ASAP.
I'm feeling like a sniper in Battlefield just to be able to close the darn window and keep the music.
go to the top left corner of spotify where you see "edit" click on edit and then click on "preferences" then scroll to the bottom and you will see something that says advanced settings, click on that, then scroll down almost to the bottom, to the section that says "startup and window behavior" for the open spotify automatically that should be put to "yes" and the two options below, those buttons shall be green. Hope this helped.
Thank you so much! That's exactly what I wanted. I never actually noticed there was an "Advanced options" button, that's why I never found it 😛
