Spotify Website won't load & App is offline

Spotify Website won't load & App is offline

For some reason, whenever I'm at work, my Spotify will completely stop working. The Desktop app thinks that I'm offline and I can't even access www.spotify.com in any of my browsers (Chrome, IE, Edge, Firefox). In Chrome, it would say "This site can’t be reached www.spotify.com took too long to respond."

In Edge, it says, "404 Not Found 198.55.99.48 - no redirects at this IP".

I'm pretty sure it's not my Firewall since I have made sure that Spotify is allowed through. There's no problem when I take my laptop home.

Strangely, https://community.spotify.com does work. It's only any URL which begins with www.spotify.com that won't work. Does anyone know what else I can check? It also shouldn't be related to my work's network since I can access Spotify on my phone and other people have no issues on their computers so it must be something to do with my PC.

I have also tried uninstalling and installing again to no avail (it wouldn't explain why spotify.com doesn't work also anyway).

Hey @MarcusX

The reason why you can access this community is likely because it's a Lithium board, separate from the web player and support site which are on Spotify servers.

It might be that the network admins at your workplace decided to include some restrictions to the firewall. I'm talking about the physical or server-side firewall, not the one on your computer.

Antivirus software can be pretty powerful at blocking everything. I have had issues with Panda AV and the likes. Take a look at your antivirus program and find if it does block something. If yes, it should be possible to whitelist it.

Hope this helps 🙂

As I said, I don't think it has anything to do with my work's network firewall since my colleagues can use Spotify without any problems, and I have no issues using it on my phone (whilst using my work's wifi).

Other than Windows Defender, I'm only using Malwarebytes Anti Malware and I have already made sure that they're not blocking it. And like I said, I don't have the problem when I bring my laptop home so the anti virus software shouldn't be the culprit because then it would be blocking it there too.

In this case it might be worth trying to flush the DNS.

Run Command Prompt as an admin and type in the following command:

ipconfig /flushdns

And hit Enter.

You can try restarting the computer too. If you're running Windows 10, then these don't actually shutdown fully (caches things for faster startup).

Keep me posted 🙂

Thanks for the suggestions but they didn't work for me unfortunately 😞

About the network - if it's wifi, you can try recreating your work network profile (that means you'll have to reinsert password to log into the network).

Follow this guide on how to get to your profiles and delete the work wifi profile. You'll lose connection after deleting it so you'll have to reconnect to the router which will create a new profile.

If possible, try cabled connection instead of wireless or the other way around.

Keep me in the loop!

Same here. I live in southern Thailand, in Koh Samui, I use a Mac Pro, I have a super fast fiber optic connection and I mean fast: 591.50 Mbps download - 610 Mbps upload, just now. All my equipment is connected through ethernet, excellent quality cables, no problem whatsoever with both routers. I can connect to anything on the web BUT fu..ing Spotify... I am a premium user so I got in touch with them, they told me how sorry they are, they're probably weeping right now but they didn't do anything! They told me 25 times to unselect the Offline mode because it's a different employee each time who has no idea about what's going on... They also told me to uninstall everything, get rid of the cache as well then go back to their site which I can't do, download and reinstall their crappie application. It didn't change anything besides losing all of my playlists... I've been paying these last 2 months but have no access, they don't care. I asked for my money back, they didn't even answer me. I also pay for Apple Music and have no problem with them so Ciao, bye, bye Spoticrap. It seems like the problem is they are uncrypted and it is seen by the browser as an unsecured connection so no access.

Anyway, good luck guys
