Spotify app skips songs repeatedly without input

Spotify app skips songs repeatedly without input

I'll hit the skip button once, and Spotify will sometimes start skipping repeatedly. The number of skipped songs varies, from around 50 to hundreds. This happens both with and without shuffle on, and it's been occurring multiple times a day for several days. The issue is specific to the Windows app; it doesn't happen in the car, on my phone, or on Roku. I've already deleted and reinstalled the app from both the Microsoft Store and the Spotify website. It's not a peripheral problem because I've tried different mice and keyboards from different brands. I believe this is an app error, but I wanted to inquire about the issue before escalating it.

Hey,

Thanks for reaching out and welcome to the Community.

Does the web player show the same behavior? In any case, we'd recommend updating/reinstalling your audio drivers and checking your Windows hosts file using this guide.

If the issue persists, please send over a video of how things look on your end so we can investigate further. If the file is too large to attach, you can upload it to Google Drive (make sure to allow general access to the file) or as an unlisted YouTube video.

Keep us posted.

Spotify skips tracks for some reason I don't know. I can't even listen to music because it won't let me and skips everything I try to listen to.

hey the solution you said did not work at all like when i try to listen to a song it plays it for one second then moves on to the next and then also skips that song as well this has happened to long now and I'm actually fed up with it

Hey there @Jayden_Alt

Thanks for getting in touch about this and welcome to the Community!

Just to confirm, is this happening across devices or only on a specific one? Also, does this happen when you're streaming directly on your devices or when you're listening to your content via Connect/Bluetooth?

If this is only happening on one specific device, it's well worth running a clean reinstall of the app to get rid of any cached files that might be causing trouble.

If the issue persists, make sure to send us a video as @MihailY requested above.

We'll be waiting for your reply.

I also have this issue and it seems to be related to Spotify's web player. I've tried on all of my devices and it happens in all of them.

Hey folks! @Torey @Jayden_Alt

Could you please confirm if this issue is occurring for you only when you're using the web player or when using the desktop app as well?

I believe there have been similar issues on the forum before and - if memory serves me right - they were resolved by clearing the hosts file on your machine. To do so, just follow the steps from this FAQ article.

Hope this helps! Keep us posted on how things go 🙂

Hi,

my web app (free version, on Chrome) doesn't really function for music: it's more adds than music, BUT THE PROBLEM is that it skips tracks like they were poisoned. When I try to listen to an album (the way I like listening to music), it skips (for instance) to the 5th track, then again (randomly). So... the best case scenario, I can listen to 2 songs on an album.

Should there be a better way in 2026 ? (I know it wasn't like that in the past...)

Thank you,

Cris

Hi there @Crx22,

Thanks for the reply.

Could you check if the same happens on the web player across different devices or just a specific one? If you use any kind of VPN, disable it as it could be interfering with the server communication and causing this to happen. Another possibility is the DRM service on Chrome not working as expected. Try checking for the Widevive extension and updating it as necessary.

Hope this helps.
