Spotify deletes my local files.

So I often will legally download free music from mediafire and such and it use to always be in my local files but now when I do this it registers it as being there and then once I reboot spotify it will have removed all of those songs from the local files area even though they are still on my computer or in itunes. Is this just to prevent piracy and unescapeable or can I fix this issue?
