Spotify desktop says I'm offline when all other websites (including spotify web) works

Solved!

Spotify desktop says I'm offline when all other websites (including spotify web) works

Operating System

Ubuntu 16.04

My Question or Issue

Same problem as https://community.spotify.com/t5/Desktop-Windows/I-have-full-internet-connection-but-it-says-I-m-off... but none of the existing issues resolve it.

I resolved it so I'll be posting that as an answer, since I can't post an answer on that thread.

In my case the issue was due to the DNS configuration.

I had two DNS servers. From what I know, both DNS servers are queried and if the first one doesn't have an entry, then second one's entry is used.

So my first DNS server was a local server and second one was Google's 8.8.8.8. Websites worked fine, even spotify web worked fine, but Spotify desktop had problems. I believe it may have some logic which checks if it's offline based on DNS resolution time or based on checking if DNS records were found by the first DNS server queried only.

I switched the order of DNS servers and spotify desktop now works like a charm.
