Spotify show the remote playing bar on desktop, if the device is the desktop computer

Solved!

Spotify show the remote playing bar on desktop, if the device is the desktop computer

As of the latest update, Spotify on desktop shows the green bar to indicate it is playing music through another device - even if the device is that current computer. This is really annoying and distracting, and honestly unnecessary when my default audio device is the bluetooth headset.

Can we please revert this change so it no longer indicates I am playing on my current computer?

Hey there @Okaycontinue,

Thanks for reaching out here in the Community. We moved your post out of the Ideas section as it fits better in the help boards.

Would you mind letting us know if you've already performed a clean reinstall of the app? This is often an overlooked step, but it can be helpful to get rid of any cache that might be causing trouble.

If this doesn't do the trick, could you send over the make and model of your device, along with the exact Spotify version you're currently running.

We'll be on the lookout for your reply.

Will the clean install get rid of the green bar like she asked? Because like her, I do not like this new feature and would like to know how to get rid of it on my computer. Please let me and Okaycontinue know what we should do to make that happen.

Same problem. Never had this bar before. It's displayed since yesterday as soon as I connect via Bluetooth Earbuds. Reinstalling the desktop app did not help.

The same thing is happening to me. It's super annoying

Hi Novy,

This is a new "feature" that has been included as of the last update, and seems like it was intended - clean installs do not help.

I'm running the following:

Spotify for Windows (64 bit)
1.2.38.720.ga4a70a0e

PLEASE let us hide the green bar, it's super annoying and redundant. I don't need need a gigantic bright green bar that takes up a bunch of room to tell me that I'm playing the song on the same device that I'm listening to....

Hey folks!

We tried replicating this issue but it seems to only be present on your ends.
With this in mind - for whoever hasn't shared this info already, we'd require your device model, its OS version and your Spotify app version for further investigation into this 🙂

Many thanks! We'll keep you posted.

Hi Vasil,

As noted above, I'm using the Desktop Spotify for windows 64.

  • While on desktop, connect to a bluetooth device from that current computer using the "Connect to a device" icon in the bottom left corner
    • I am using bluetooth headphones connected to my PC (Bose headphones) and from other comments it looks like other users are also using various bluetooth headphones connected to their respective PCs.
  • Ensure that "This computer" is the current device playing
  • Result: the Green "sharing" bar is shown at the bottom of the Spotify application window
  • Expected: The green sharing bar should not be shown if the device playing the music is "This computer" - even if it is via a bluetooth device.

Macbook running Big Sur Version 11.7.10. Desktop app is Spotify for macOS (Intel)

This has also happened to me, starting yesterday. After a clean reinstall the problem persists.

Hi folks,

Thanks so much for your help and all the details you've provided.

As we mentioned, we haven't been able to reproduce this behavior from our side. We'll need to gather more details to continue with the investigation. First up, does it only happen with Bluetooth headphones/earbuds? Could you check if it happens with Bluetooth speakers?

Additionally, it'd be helpful if one of you could send a video recording of how it looks when you open the app and play any song. This is just in case we need to report the situation. You can attach it in your next reply in mp4 format, or you can also upload it to YouTube or Google Drive and make it public, so we can visualize it.

Lastly, if you know any other user who's experiencing this, recommend them to report it in this thread. The more reports we have, the better.

We'll be here!

It does happen with my Bose SoundLink Bluetooth speaker as well

In the video you can see what happens when you connect earbuds, play music and then put them back in the case.

Hey there,

Thanks for keeping us in the loop!

That's great to hear @Okaycontinue, we're happy that things are working for you again 🙂

Should anyone else still experience similar behavior with the app - we've also looked into this with our teams and you should notice a change in the upcoming app version, so make sure to keep your app up-to-date. You can do so by following the steps on this page.

We're just a post away if anything appears.

Cheers!
