Spotify stops after each local song

Solved!

Spotify stops after each local song

Hello,

I've got a problem with playing local files in spotify. After each song it stops playing. This weirdly enough is only the case for local songs and not for steamed songs.
I think it might have something to do with a windows update. When I found out, two days ago, I recovered my system to the state before the windows update, and then it worked again. Last night it automatically updated windows and same problem of not continuous playing occured again.

Someone with a solution? It is really annoying!

Cheers!

  • Queueing two local songs after each other

This works for me as well. But I'm almost 100% sure it didn't some time ago.

Windows 7 Ultimate N, 64-bit

Spotify 0.8.4.124.ga3559d86

I don't have this problem in any other normal music player. However, I just tried Eve Online after a long break. It has an integrated jukebox which can play mp3's, and that doesn't work for me anymore either. More info in this Eve thread. There is no solution for that, but my guess is people with that issue wouldn't be able to play local songs in Spotify.

Edit: I just re-read the thread I linked. Some people fixed that issue by installing k-lite codec pack. Installed it too, didn't help.

Well, I just installed the newest Quicktime player. But the problem is still to be found.

Also, it worked perfectly fine without Quicktime all along. I'm not sure when it all started to mess up. Sounds like a new thing for you guys on Spotify. But thanks for the suggestion anyways. ^^

Hi everybody,
I've a new time proceed to install of spotify, after have install quick time.
And I have always the same problem.
No chance for me ... And you ?
Now, i just have to hope someone give us the solution ^^

Why has this issue not been fixed yet?

This is very annoying, I have to go back to spotify and manually click the next song to play it, then click back on the song it failed to launch automatically.

Unticking the Hardware Acceleration in Preferences does nothing btw.

Just updated Spotify to the newest version (0.8.5.1331.ge9d898e3) and the problem persists! :@

Thanks for all the information guys. I've collated what I've got so far and it's being looked at.

I'm almost convinced that the similar problem on mobile devices is unrelated. If you're experiencing this on your iOS or Android device, try force stopping the application and opening it up again. On Android, do this in your settings menu. On iOS, open up Spotify, hold down the power button until "Slide to power off" appears, then press the home button until the application shuts down.

I do apologise for the double post, but I have to request some further information from you guys on this issue. Despite all the great stuff you have provided, we're still unable to reproduce this at all.

So, could we try and request the following -

* A list / screenshot of the running processes on your computer when you encounter this issue

* Does this happen for every MP3 / M4A file, or is it occasional? Does it happen with a set of tracks all the time?

* Can you reproduce this by following the same steps every single time?

Airhorn Enthusiast

*Processes

* Happens for every (local) MP3 file in any existing playlist.

* It happens every single time I play local MP3 files in a playlist. Steps followed:
  - Open Spotify.
  - Select song.
  - Play song.

  - Song ends.

  - Silence. Next track shows in left bottom corner, but track does not play.

  - Skip forward or backwards one track, next track plays. At the end of that track, silence again.

Thanks David, for trying to find out what is going on, as this is maddening...

Hi,
I can confirm that it's like this, every day.
I added new MP3 they behave like the formers, they stop after each MP3, I have to do to a "previous / next" for listening.
I try to delete all personal music, try to place them in a single directory.
I try to put only 5 MP3 ... no manipulation solves this problem.
So now, for some weeks, I proceed as at start of spotify, when everything worked.
Multiple directories and still the same problem ... that I hear the songs in "Music Personal" or in the "Selection" (for which I enabled this feature).

Happends with all local MP3's. For required steps se the previous posts by others...

This bug started out with a new version of Spotify (don't know wich one though).

The following soundcard-driver is the one I use:

@David: Any news yet?

Newest Spotify update didn't solve the problem.

Yet another spotify-update and this is thill not solved...

Have you guys managed to reproduce the bug yet?

Following is test and configuration info including scenarios, process list, and installed en/decoder list ...
OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional w SP1 (64-bit) 8GB RAM / Most current patching level

Spotify: 0.8.5.1333.g822e0de8

QuickTime: 7.7.2 (1680.56)

Note: Had to install (http://www.free-codecs.com/mpeg_layer_3_codec_download.htm) MP3 codec for Spotify to play local files, even though all other music playback programs worked with current codecs installed. "My Music" libraries mapped to D:\My Music & E:\My Audio. All music tracks play from from D:\My Music.

Symptoms
1. Occasional and inconsistent non play of local next track. Prior successful track may be local or streaming.
2. Track can be played by selecting next or prior track and re-selecting missed track. Transition between prior track and problem track will continue to fail via normal playlist playback.

I have a list of scenarios with file encoding information but too big to post. There doesn't appear to be a consistent pattern of when a local file will not play. I've checked encoding and security, and they don't appear to be relevant issues. I do run a number of DLNA servers, including TVMobli, Subsonic, and QLoud. - W

Another thing I want to ask. Play a local file, and then look at your Play Queue. It should have a selection of other local tracks lined up -

My play queue:

Play Queue

Larger image: http://i45.tinypic.com/rl9oud.jpg

I have now reached the end of the song that was playing. The next song in the queue is 'La Bahia Del Silencio'. The next song showing in the bottom left corner is also 'La Bahia Del Silencio'. Nothing is playing, though.
Click here to see what it looks like after the next song is selected.

Tracks appear appropriately in "Play Queue". Playing a local file... stops on problematic local track. It's interesting to me that only the same specific local tracks will not play in a queue/playlist... I can still play them by clicking on another track then selecting the problem track. If Spotify dev/QA wants to connect with me to look at my system, I'm currently between IT contracts, so my availability is good and I'm willing to help. - W

Hello,

We're got another suggestion for you to try.

Dawntje - From your applications list, you seem to have a HD Control Panel for audio playback. Pop into the settings of that and ensure no effects are on (things like Bass Boost, etc). Also, you might want to check any Sample Rate settings, if they are there. Try setting it to around 44.1/48khz & 24 bit

PIkkenix - Similar instructions for you here, but with your "Realtek HD Audio Manager".

Both the Equalizer and Enviroment settings are set to <None>. Loudness equalization = unchecked.

Default format set to: 24 Bits, 48000 Hz

Have you managed to reproduce this bug?

Thanks for letting us know - No change at all? Sadly we still haven't been able to reproduce this at all - I've even tried at home with no luck.
