Hello,
I've got a problem with playing local files in spotify. After each song it stops playing. This weirdly enough is only the case for local songs and not for steamed songs.
I think it might have something to do with a windows update. When I found out, two days ago, I recovered my system to the state before the windows update, and then it worked again. Last night it automatically updated windows and same problem of not continuous playing occured again.
Someone with a solution? It is really annoying!
Cheers!

Hi, I had a similar problem. Playlists would just stop as one song finished. It seemed very random and I couldn't say that it was only happening after a local song or as a local song was about to be played. One song would finsih, the picture and name of the next track would appear but the track wouldn't start.
Anyway, I have unistalled the current software and downloaded and installed the older version and it all works fine. From what I can see, I don't even need to reinstall it each time as some posters have said.
Great the problem is sorted but I hate having to use an older version - I was getrting used to using some of the apps and now they are gone.
This is rubbish for a service that I pay £10 a month for.
Spoitfy - SORT IT OUT
bumping because this is becoming a serious hassle and it feels like nothing is being done? we get the same questions about codecs and the like, and we give the same answers every time.
spotify is, right now, not living up to what I'm paying for. it seems to me like being a player of local media files is the very least we should be able to expect that it could get right.
Spotify, seriously... What is this? I don't think I've ever come across worse customer service in my entire life.
Just because some of us have a temporary solution does not mean you can deem this problem solved. Why are there no more replies from you?
I've been having this issue too. It's so frustrating that I'll probably not renew my premium subscription. Playing local files isn't something there should ever be any issue with, VLC, winamp, countless other media players have been handling it fine for the better part of a decade.
I have this problem as well. I can't believe it hasn't been fixed yet, it's been over half a year since this thread was created.
As previously stated - We have been unable to reproduce this on work computers, and on my own personal laptop.
Seems like codecs have been the cause of this problem - The Ace Codec pack has been mentioned, and seems to be causing problems. Not entirely sure why people would need this, so I would recommend the following.
* Removing third party codecs using the steps listed here
* At this point, you might want to restart your computer. If you feel you've rather overboard on media players, try uninstalling them too.
* Reinstall Spotify
This should eliminate this codec issue and allow you to play local files all day long.
Doesn't work.
I'd tried this months ago, but just spent 30 minutes doing it again in hope it might work this time.
I never had "Ace Codec". Only media players I have are Windows, iTunes and Spotify.
Removed codecs, uninstalled Spotify, restarted PC, reinstalled Spotify, restarted PC - problem still there.
I've been onboard as a Spotify premium user since the beginning, and stayed very loyal, but this problem and the latest awful software update have pushed me to the edge. There are now a couple of decent alternatives available. I don't want to leave Spotify, but unless longstanding problems are resolved I can't see any other option.
Perhaps a debug/logging mode in a version of Spotify would help us give you the information you need to fix it or tell us what the problem actually is.
I'll let you remote access my computer if that helps
David, if you want to reproduce this issue., you could download any one of the Kid Cudi mixtapes on Datpiff.com, all of which give me this issue during playback. I haven't noticed it with any other file downloads from that website, except for Kid Cudi songs.
Just something to think about.
I'm done.
I've uninstalled Spotify, and I've heard good things about rdio (http://www.rdio.com/) so I'll be checking that out. Good luck to the rest of you for getting this fixed!

Sounds like something is particularly wrong with those tracks, if you only get it when playing them.
Even when local file playback (sorta) worked, some mp3s wouldn't play. Weeknd House of Balloons was one I remember.

Come on David, you know that many others of us are having this problem with ALL local tracks, and the problem only occurred following a Spotify update - the problem is with Spotify. Why not take up the offer of assistance in solving the problem instead of continuing to go around and around with no solution. The fact that the problem doesn't occur on your laptop is irrelevant - I doubt you are paying £9.99 a month.
My .2.. this is a codec issue, possibly as a result of installing a codec pack or other player that installs codecs. As a paying customer, I'm very close to moving on myself. The compelling hook for me is community and it will be hard to drop because of that... very frustrating.
Hey all, adding my 2 cents to this thread because A) I want to get notified, and B) My problem is the exact same, except my Spotify plays mp3'ss but not .m4a's. I just got a new computer with Windows 8, 64 bit, and my Spotify worked fine on old comps, but not this one.The same songs/files worked on those other computers, but the Spotify on my new Toshiba won't play them.
-I've tried playing my local files via different playlists, mixed in and everything else suggested, but nothing seems to work.
-As far as I know, I'm currently using the most recent update of Spotify.
-The problem is consistent. The same files have all stopped playing. Some are greyed out and some are not.
-It is only local files.
-I'm using free Spotify
I would really love it if I didn't have to reinstall an old version of Spotify...David, let me know if I can give you any more helpful information!

That's actually incorrect - I am paying £9.99 a month for Spotify.

Well obviously. What I'm saying is that it seems to be an issue with the files themselves, nothing on Spotify's end. Or perhaps Spotify needs a better compatibility with certain audio files. I don't know my tech stuff.
There's no problem concerning playback with local files in iTunes or any other player. So no, it's your fault.
Hey there you, Yeah, you! 😁 Welcome - we're glad you joined the Spotify Community! While you here, let's have a fun game and get…
