About a couple days ago my spotify decided it wasn't going to open. I click on the application, it bounces up and down but doesn't open. when I right click it, it comes up with 'application not responding'. I've just tried removing it and reinstalling it. the box with spotify in it appears and the spotify icon comes up again but still doesn't open. How can i fix this?
Solved! Go to Solution.
OSX 10.9.2 - Every time I start spotify it locks up. If I turn wifi off and start Spotify it functions. As soon as I turn wifi on it force closes. I deleted the files from my Library directory and it works again. That being said, I'm done with Spotify.
How do you mess up your application so bad that it crashes every time a user opens it.... and unless they have experience using the terminal and navigating hidden files they are basically screwed? I'm a developer so it was pretty easy but I can't imagine my parents or the majority of my friends being able to fix something like this without some serious hand holding. I really hope whoever/whatever team responsible for this one is no longer working there.
I used to be a paying subscriber but no more will I pay for this crap, nor use the free version. Time to move on to a different streaming service.
I agree, I'm also done with Spotify. I'm using 10.9.1, and I've had this problem for the last two weeks. For the last 3-4 years, I've been a loyal customer to Spotify, but I've finally had enough. It's pretty good timing, too, my one-year subscription runs out in a month.
Having the same issue here, with 10.6.8
Having looked at the help page, I've looked in the caches folder and the application support folder - no sign of anything spotify related.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, opened the app with wifi turned on and off. The best I get is a darn beachball for hours on end.
This has been a problem since Tuesday. Anyone got any ideas?
Today I start having the same problem, trying to open the app and it just freezes, offline the app works, but when I connect to my wi-fi network back again it freezes and crashes, I delete the app redownload it, and no fix, logging out also doesn't work

I have spotify on my Mac, but the problem was fixed when I clean reinstalled the app
I recently bought an iMac and I have the same 'application not responding' problem. SO annoying! 😞
I disconnected WIFI, went to Library/Logs and Library/Application Support and deleted the Spotify folders. Then I opened Spotify (still without WIFI), logged in and reconnected WIFI. Now it works for me.
I tried that and once again it didnt work
Had the same problem with operating system Windows 7 Home Edition. I tried right-click and then "Run as Administrator" and it worked!
I have the same problem as of yesterday. I am using Windows 7. Spotify cannot be started.
Same here " spotify application is not responding "
win7
same here ;/ win 7 up to date today morning it was ok and after reset its not starting
The same at my Win7. Reinstalling, removing files and running as admin didn't help 😞
I have still this problem and i tried to restart it with the wi-fi connection closed but that didn't work also if i have to reinstall spotify to make it working again i might even consider not using it again if it's becomming even inconvenient to use...
Try a clean reinstall
Windows:
First uninstall Spotify and then delete this folder:
C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Spotify
After that reinstall Spotify
If you can't find the folder, try this:
Uninstall Spotify: Start > Control Panel > Programs / Uninstall a Program > Spotify
Find your AppData folder and delete all Spotify data.
Start, run, type: %appdata% and hit enter
You probably see 4 folders; enter each and see if they contain a folder called Spotify. Delete the entire Spotify folder.
Restart your computer at this point.
Reinstall Spotify (download)
Mac:
Try downloading this free app cleaner. It's super easy.
http://www.freemacsoft.net/appcleaner/
When you open up the app, search for Spotify and it will automatically find and delete all files on your computer related to Spotify.
I use it all the time and it's a really great tool. If you ever decide to uninstall an app, the best way is to use this tool.
After that, download and reinstall Spotify.
same here, went to play my music while i do my homework as usual but it gave me the "spotify application is not responding" box each time i open it, my friend had this issue earlier today but i thought it was a one off.
my specs: windows 7 spotify version 1.0.1.1060
EDIT: just got it working again, just ran the updater executable briefly and closed it and it suddenly opened with no problems and it has continued to open properly after this.
Same problem here, foudn this thread, and hb1290's solution worked. Just a little more technical info the exe you need to run is called "Spotify_new.exe" located here: C:\Users\<YOUR_USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\Spotify\Spotify_new.exe in V/7/8
Same thing here. Have tried to do a clean reinstall, and to run as administration.
