Spotify won't open - 'application not responding'

About a couple days ago my spotify decided it wasn't going to open. I click on the application, it bounces up and down but doesn't open. when I right click it, it comes up with 'application not responding'. I've just tried removing it and reinstalling it. the box with spotify in it appears and the spotify icon comes up again but still doesn't open. How can i fix this?

Thanks 🙂 I am trying to run version 0.9.0.133

I ran REVO unistaller, which seemed to do the trick, then when the installer ran it failed, reproting ERROR CODE 17

Fixed! 🙂

I chased up the ERROR CODE 17 lead on this forum and found that booting into safe mode, (using MSCONFIG - Windows 8), and running the installer from there, (after switching on the wi-fi that is), the installation went normally and I was able to boot back into normal mode and Spotify has initiated normally!!!

It remains to see how permanent this fix will be, but I do feel at least a little jubilant right now 🙂

I have uninstalled and reinstalled at least 3 times now. It will bounce for about 45 seconds and then it will give me the login. I can log in but as soon as it opens it closes again. I am running Mac OS X 10.5.8.  I can open it when I shut off the WIFI but the second it comes back on it closes again. Getting very frustrated. Have spotify on my phone and thinking about taking it off.

The old version of Spotify you are using in OSX 10.5 no longer works.  They broke it yesterday with some sort of web content that shuts it down.  Some have reverted to 0.6.3 or 0.6.2, I'll check my browser history for the link....  One of the mods said they are working on it, but I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you.

This is dragging on far too long. I certainly hope Spotify steps up and does the right thing by the premium users by not charging us, or giving us a credit for this miserable month of no service and no solution.

I have tried the unistall reinstall deleting everything to do with spotify and reinstalling from the website and mine still won't work. It will open without internet but the second I turn on internet it shuts off, and won't reopen. I am using mac version 10.5.8, and I'm not sure what version I was running. It all started when I quit out and now it won't reopen. Help is appreciated as spotify help has been no help yet. thanks

I answered your question a couple of posts up this page.

Thank you for your help. I will give it a try tomorrow when I have more time.

I'm having the same issue at work where co-workers launch spotify, allowing them to input user id and password, then it disappears from the dock.  Using osx 10.6.8.

After doing some test, I realized this issue occurs when attempting to login spotify as an Open Directory user.  When opening spotify as a local admin it works perfectly.

Last week this happened to me as well.

Spotify stopped working on my iMac, have been doing clean install with latetest version (0.9.0.133.gd18ed589) and run OS X 10.7.5, premium user.

Have managed to reinstall spotify, but it does not allow me to log into my account, crashes after inpting user information.

Since I log on via a work machine, I can't disconnect my machine as others have suggested.

Ok, this is NOT funny now!

The application will not launch again.

Windows 8, clean install after previous issues and has been running fine for about 2 weeks.

The process appears in the task manager for a while, but nothing running on the desktop.

Is there a fix now, or am I going to have to accept that Spotify is a flawed application and demand compensation?

There is a new version of the client which is currently rolling out (v0.9.1) which comes with a heap of stability patches and performance fixes. It hasn't hit the download pages directly yet, but once it does hopefully it will solve a lot of these start-up issues.

No precise details I'm afraid, other than "soon". I'll keep an eye on it, once it goes to the download pages I will post the links here if someone else doesn't beat me to it!

I would like for spotify to have more albanian music because the collection is way to small. do you know how to request for more albanian music? where i can mail them or something?? 🙂

Albanero

There is general information on the catalogue here. You could contact Albanian publishers and musicians and get them to publish their music to Spotify although, until Spotify launches in Albania, they may prefer to wait.

Just saw this, Joe has you sorted! Its up to content publishers to add their content to Spotify, so getting in touch with them is normally the first step!
