My Question or Issue

When i launch the program and start a song right away, it will start playing for 2-3 seconds and then i get a loop and second 2-3 are played again, but the song will not start  completely from the beginning, then it plays normally and so do all songs afterwards.

except if i choose another playlist for example and start another song manually, then it will happen again.

but also not always, sometimes it works sometimes not.

never seen this problem before, until i updated the porgram today.

is this a known issue? i couldnt find anything.

thanks

Bumping this!! Same thing is happening to me, hoping the mods fix this soon. Might as well use Youtube for music instead ://

It helped me uninstall their app and then download the version that was released in January.

Alas, there is no such option as "Safe Boot (with networking)". Only aafe boot is without internet connection.

Hey folks,

Thanks for getting back to us.

In this case, we suggest that you try clearing your hosts file by following the steps below:

  1. Open Notepad as an administrator (right-click - Open as Administrator)
  2. go to File - Open and navigate to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc
  3. Choose "All Files" instead of "Text Documents" next to the File Name box. You'll see a handful of files. Pick hosts and click on Open
  4. When the file is open, you will see a block of text with # in front of each line and might see entries like 0.0.0.0 website.com127.0.0.1 website2.com
  5. Check for any entries with Spotify in the address. Examples may look like: 0.0.0.0 weblb-wg.gslb.spotify.com0.0.0.0
  6. If you do find any lines with Spotify, please remove them
  7. Save your changes and restart Spotify

Let us know how it goes.

there was two files named hosts i opened two of these didn't find any spotify files unfortunately

All songs have a chance for it to happen in my experiences.. although it's not always a guarantee it'll happen. Sometimes it doesn't. It's always in the first 5 seconds of the song for me. I've done both a regular and clean reinstall / restart.

Made sure to go with a variety so it's not based on genre or artist or anything like that.

This happens to me as well. It happens randomly with any song. Sometimes it happens with the same song every time it plays. In my case it happens around sec 4-5, and it stays like that until it stop repeating the same beat.
I'm using the Desktop version of Spotify on Windows 10

Hello, I would like to tell you that I am also experiencing the same issue, performing a clean install doesn't do anything, after just 2 songs, the issue resurfaced. Also, it feels like the spotify is going faster than it is able to stream, EG: the song goes on until 13 seconds with it repeating in between, I press the pause button and the duration bar goes to 6-8 seconds, as if the song was streaming faster than my wifi was able to keep up.
Turning the streaming quality down to low seems to fix it, now it only repeats a part of a song for certain songs but the issue isn't gone. This was never a issue before when my streaming quality was on automatic or high.

This bug has been known for some time, and a lot of people have also been experiencing it for quite some time. I personally have given up on listening to Spotify until the issue is fixed.

I agree with pretty much every other user's comments on this thread - we are all having the exact same issue. Vroosi said "the song will only loop if: it's on repeat or if you've selected it to play." and I think they hit the nail on the head. Potentially a lot of users aren't experiencing this issue because they choose a playlist and play it, but personally I like to listen to the same one song on repeat for hours at a time, so I get this bug very consistently.

Some troubleshooting steps I have tried so far, in order, are;

  1. Restarting my device. The skipping has occurred across five different days for me, with my device being entirely shut down between each day. This did nothing to fix the issue.
  2. Lowering stream quality from High to Low. It sure made me appreciate that I have the ability to stream the songs in High quality, but it certainly did nothing to fix the looping.
  3. Clearing my Spotify cache. I am not a tech savvy person so I took the recommendation from ViWizard and deleted this file - C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Spotify\Storage. It didn't fix the issue.
  4. Then I tried a clean reinstallation of the latest version from the Spotify website. This also did not fix the issue.
  5. I saw a cool forum where someone said that unchecking the option 'Automix' would solve the issue, so I unchecked that. It didn't help at all.
  6. I uninstalled again and reinstalled from the Microsoft Store. Songs are still skipping.

I understand that this is a difficult issue to track. However, your support team in this forum seem intent on pinning it on old cache files and the like - alistaerz even mentioned having trouble with the Twitter support team. I hope that this bug will be looked into soon; I personally cannot stand most other music players and would really love to see Spotify functioning properly so that it's usable again.

 @Eni
Quit trying to help and give us solutions that will not fix the problem at all. I myself tried everything that customer service gave me but none of them did anything. This is a problem that some or maybe all spotify users have, this is a bug that you guys caused. Its your app that needs fixing so go fix it already.

I did all the steps specified, and as the people before me said, it seems to be a problem with the update...

All I can do is now wait for the next update to drop and hopefully this gets patched.

I have the same problem, the song go on for a bit and then it starts repeating a bit then goes on, the CPU goes up to 15% and power usage goes up to very high, it's because of the new update.

Fix: Go on the internet and find spotify version before the latest one
it worked fine for me.

Skipping is back 😞 Today im listening to another users playlist an every song keeps skipping... Lame!

I strongly agree with you. Maybe they said this to you but when i contacted the customer service in the end they said i have a problem with my account and said they prefer to transfer a new account, so odd. I said a lot of people have this problem and i don't think this much of accounts have the same bug. Why they just cant say,  ok this is our problem we will fix it! I'm using the community page and spotify for a pretty long time and i didn't see they accept their problems. I'm okay with problems but they just don't accept 😕 3 different  mods tried and they couldn't fix it! So, in the end problem is from spotify

I checked the "hosts" file and there was nothing about Spotify in there. In fact, there was barely anything there at all.

Hello,

I have the exact same issue on my end. Windows 10 Desktop App. On both my personal and work computers.

It seems to happen only when my music is on repeat. At the beginning of the song, a short segment is looping 3 times, then the song continues normally.

This is a very annoying issue. I also found a thread on Reddit with multiple people having the same issue - which I can't seem to link here.

Thank you

Dear Spotify team,

There are multiple threads opened about this issue with different names. I can count 4 of them on the first forum page alone.

@Foxaccino's answer above is pretty much spot on.

Please escalate this issue to your development team. This is NOT an issue with a cache file and re-installing the app will not fix this issue.

As a software engineer, my best guess would be that there is probably something wrong in the code that was rolled out in the last update.

It is unacceptable that an issue like this has been going on for so long. I can't even find any official statement that your development team is fixing this.

Best,

They surely could fix it by rolling back the last update. From what people say it seems to be an issue caused by an update 1-3 weeks ago.
Why can't they go through the code changes they made, it has to be somewhere in the latest code changes (or related to them).
