(Technical question) Spotify Connect disconnects when screen shuts off on a laptop

Hello!

Just today, I repurposed an old laptop into a dedicated Spotify Connect machine, but I have ran into a problem.

My goal is to make the system run completely "headless", which means that it does processing work and all that, with no screen or interaction on my part. I did get Spotify Connect working, and it interacts with my Android phone perfectly. But, when I close the lid (I set it to do nothing in Windows,) Spotify Connect shuts off, but Spotify continues to run.

So currently I have the laptop's screen up enough to keep it on, so Connect works. But I would ideally like for the screen to stay closed and have Connect work.

The laptop is a 2010-era Acer running a fresh copy of Windows 7 Home Premium, and Spotify is the latest version, on both phone and PC-side.

Thanks for the help in advance!

The way Connect works is that a device will be available from the list of connected devces as long as the device is not in standby or turned off. It could be that the laptop is going into some inactive mode once the screen is off.

I know this is a different OS, but my mac has an option not to sleep or go inactive when I shut the lid and it's plugged in. So when my lid is shut, my laptop still appears on the connect list. So it might be somehing to do with the way your laptop or the Windows operating system handles it.
