The Spotify app on my pc won't let me skip the current song or choose

Whenever I load the app I try skipping the song it wont work but the other buttons work. I try clicking on another song it won't play it. I can add it to the queue, but that is the only way. I tried to reinstall the app several times and that hasn't worked. Once in awhile it skips through songs like crazy as well. Any help would be amazing.

Hey @cdelfrate90,

Thanks for reaching out! Sorry to see this has been happening.

Note that unlimited skips of tracks and playing on demand are generally not available if you're using the free tier of the app.
If you're on the Premium plan and experiencing such issues though, something is definitely not in order.

When you say that sometimes many songs get skipped, is this behaviour reproducible? When does it occur and is there any pattern to what songs are getting skipped? We'd also like to know when these issues have started (e.g. after an app- or system update).

As starting troubleshooting steps (aside from the regular reinstall you've already covered), try removing the app's cached data as shown here and disable the Hardware Acceleration from the app's menu:

After the app restarts, check if the issue remains and let us know.
We'll be on the lookout for your reply 🙂

I had the same issue. I tried everything you said to do, but it still won't let me skip songs (yes, I have premium). I tried to look for other solutions but none seem to come up.

Hey there @in_a_reverie,

Thanks for posting here and welcome.

Would you mind sharing with us the exact troubleshooting steps you've tried so far? That way, we can avoid repeating any steps. If you'd made sure you've logged in to your Premium account, we'd suggest you:

  • Log out and log in twice in a row onto your Spotify account. This could sound a little bit odd, but this way the system will force a resync of your account in general.
  • Perform a clean reinstall of the app on the affected device. That way the app can be up-to-date, and you can make sure the cache is not leading to this behavior.

If the above doesn't do the trick, we'd like to gather some additional info. Please send us:

  • The make/model and OS of the affected device.
  • The exact Spotify version you're running there.
  • Does this happen if you open a different Premium account on the affected device? You can ask for the account of a relative or a friend to open it on your device and check.
  • Did you notice if this started to happen after a specific event such as an OS update?

Keep us in the loop!

I have had this same issue for probably about a year now, I have premium and have tried every way of troubleshooting this issue with no success. I don't believe its an issue with Spotify but with Windows. To start I have noticed this issue is fairly random. It happens 50% of the time I start my pc and the only solution I have found is to restart my pc. This issue also appears sometimes while I'm just using my pc, even if I have my music paused, it will just start going wild and randomly skipping through songs and when that happens I am unable to skip a song or choose one to play myself, the only way to skip when this happens is to drag the time slider all the way to the end of the song. Something else I have noticed when this happens is that my browser wont load my search until I click off the tab I am currently on and then click back to it. Another thing I have noticed when this issue occurs is that the windows key seems to function differently. Its a very weird issue because sometimes if I just ignore the problem it will just randomly resolve its self but most of the time the only fix is a full restart of my pc.
