My Question or Issue

When wanting to listen to a song again from the start before the song has ended, if you hit back and do this about 3-6 times (maybe more, maybe less, it is random). Then it glitches out. What I mean by this is the song will continue to play as it, but the song timeline bar and seconds will show that the song restarted. So in your ear you have the song going further along not restarted, and on the bar it shows it restarted.

I have to either drag the timeline bar forward then backwards, then restart the song to make it catch up, or I have to click on another song then click back to the song I want. As a person that did this daily, this has never been an issue before. I saw some people post about it on other forums too, so I know it is not just me and my device.

Note: This is also happening on iOS, android, and MAC too.

Troubleshooting steps I have done: Did a clean install of Spotify. This problem is due to an update on Spotify's end. It has been happening for a couple of months now. And it started the second I updated my devices.

Only fix for it is to download older builds from online, so older .apks, or installers for mobile and desktops from march/feb. So it most definitely is a recent update that killed it. Downloading older builds should never be a solution.

Hi there @YellowMelon,

Thanks for reaching out about this in the Community.

In order to look further into this it would be great if you can make a video recording of the issue on one of your devices. Also include the device model, exact OS version and Spotify version.

It would be helpful to let us know if this happens with any random song or is it just specific songs or playlists. We tried reproducing this on our end on Windows and Android, but the Back button works as expected.

Keep us posted, we'll do our best to help.

@Alex

on PC I can tell you that spotify-1-1-84-716.exe onwards is the broken version and that spotify-1-1-80-699.exe is the last version to work. So you'd have to install an older version if you want this bug gone. Same for mobile.

A quick way to replicate the bug on your end is to pick a song, any song. Let it play for 5-6 seconds( so that when you hit back it has played through enough not to go to the previous song when you hit back). Then click on the back/restart track button, let it play again for 5-6 seconds, and rinse and repeat. After a handful of times, you will encounter the error.

The latest update seems to have fixed the issue. At least for me.

I take this back, It has returned again.

hey! i have the same problem from a couple weeks ago, and just like the dude said, it happens on all the devices: android, ios, windows. it was a update that caused this.

here you have a video of the bug | https://imgur.com/a/b71uSrC

(look how the bar indicated that the song was just started playing but, in reality, it was close to end, and then start the next song from the album)

my device is a laptop with windows 10, using the latest version of the .exe (1.8.85.895)

also, the bug don’t always occurs so i had to record it with my mobile in a hurry.

Hey @YellowMelon,

Could you try reproducing this issue with the "repeat track" option active and send us a video of it?

@user-removed could you describe what is happening in the video? Do you mind the song skipping to the next one when you press the pause button on your PC or are you using another device to press another button?

Keep us posted,

Cheers!

Yes I mind. Unless you guys send me a tutorial on how to record my desktop with audio along with the programs needed, I'm not going to jump through hoops to do it myself. I have clearly written down how to emulate the problem in 1-2min, take the time to apply yourselves and do it.

before i started to record in my video, i hit the 'previous' button to listen to the track i was listening to in that moment from the start, and when i did it, the timeline bar effectively restarted, but the audio didn't, and at this moment was when i started to record.

as the audio of the song didn't restart, it continued to play as if I had not clicked the 'previous' button and, consequently, the song ended. and there's when the timeline bar reset again to indicate the next song that was in the queue.

and no, i'm not using another device to press that button. i only use spotify on my laptop and iphone, and when i recorded this video i was using my phone to record the bug, so it's something wrong in the client of windows. even so, this same bug occurs on all devices.

Hey folks,

Thanks for all the info you've sent so far.

We've passed it to the right team to be looked into. We'll keep you posted on any updates on the matter here, as soon as there are any.

Hi Eni, I am still having this issue in 2023, do you know if it will be fixed soon. When I try to download an older version on my windows computer, the songs wont play it says something about having an import of the song or whatever.

Hey @YellowMelon,

Thanks for reaching out.

Can you please perform a clean reinstall of the app, check your Windows hosts file using this guide and send over your exact Spotify version in case the issue still persists?

Looking forward to your reply.
