Trouble launching desktop Spotify

I have had Spotify for sometime now. I used the web palyer for quite a bit, but I have always been a fan of the desktop version. I was logged out of the desktop version and now  I cannot log back in. I have tried using my facebook information, but that doesn't work. I have also logged into facebook and tried launching it from there and all it does is open the web player. I also tried switcherro and it does not work. What should I do?

What operating system are you using? Do you get an error message when you try to log into the desktop client?

I am using windows 8. I get an error message that says proxy error.

Are you using a Socks5 proxy? If so can you switch to a HTTPS proxy instead or disable the proxy altogether?

Sorry for not replying, I get error 412. And I have no clue what proxy I have what do I do. It says to sllow it through the firewall and it is. Please help! I hate the web player

Do you get the same error after a re-install?
