Windows 10 Error Code 50

Windows 10 Error Code 50

I recently removed the Spotify app from my Windows 10 computer, and when I tried to download the desktop version, it gave me an error code 50 telling me it can't connect to the internet. I click "retry", and then it tells me the installer is corrupt. I tried this both yesterday and today, and even disabled my firewall in hopes that it would fix the issue. Still nada. If I can't get this to work, i'll just cancel my subscription.

Hi there @tristangillett,

thanks for reaching out !

As i see you're a PC user, have you tried downloading the Microsoft version of the app to see if it works ?

Keep me updated šŸ™‚

After a recent automatic Microsoft Edge Update (which annoyingly also added the Edge icon to my taskbar once AGAIN!!!), there seems to be an aggressive Windows Smart Screen option active. It is called "Windows Smart Screen for Microsoft Edge". If you deactivate it, the Spotify download proceeds normally.

Even if you, just like me, use a good browser e.g. Mozilla Firefox, then this option will still have an impact on your Spotify download. Do not ask me why. I also tested the "SmartScreen for Microsoft Store-Apps" option, but that did not have any impact.

tldr: Deactivate "SmartScreen for Microsoft Edge" and reinstall Spotify!
