Workaround to import Windows Media Player playlists

Importing playlists from Windows Media Player seems to be broken in Spotify, at least for some users. After a lot of trial and error I figured out a workaround to add my local playlists to Spotify. Hopefully someone else finds this information useful. I'm using Windows 7 and Windows Media Player 12, so this may or may not work for other versions. The process will reset your local files in Spotify, so you'll need to add them again when you're done.

1. Remove all playlists from the WMP library. (Make sure "Delete files from computer when deleted from library" is unchecked under "Tools" > "Options" > "Library." If you don't see the Tools menu, press Ctrl+M.)
2. Open a playlist with WMP. (If WMP is not your default player, do this with right click > "Open With")
3. On the right side of WMP, click the playlist name so that it's highlighted, then click somewhere else in the window to add the playlist to the library. It should appear under "Playlists" on the left of the window, but it might take several seconds or more for large playlists.
4. If the playlist is not already in .wpl format, click "File" > "Save Now Playing list as" and save the playlist as a Windows Media Playlist.
5. Exit Spotify, then open the folder %AppData%\Spotify\Users\<username> and delete the file "local-files.bnk"
6. Start Spotify and make sure WMP is enabled in settings under "Local Files."
7. You should now see the songs in your playlist (and no other songs) in "Local Files." Click a song, press Ctrl+A, right click, and add them to a new Spotify playlist.
8. Repeat steps 1-7 for each playlist you want to add.
