arrow keys don't work anymore and it's been happening since a week ago

arrow keys don't work anymore and it's been happening since a week ago

I've tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it. I don't have a clue what to do anymore, it's so annoying, having to use the scroller. Spotify has had many problems with this exact thing, and I tried submitting a post, but something unfortunately went wrong.

It's been happening since before this week, on that very day, my brother said he had no issues with it, and he was able to use his mouse. I don't really use my mouse, except when I'm gaming, which I'm not allowed to do now. No one else seems to have posted about this recently, even though there are still lots of questions posted on this website.

Seriously, does anyone know how to fix it? I genuinely can't possibly deal with this any longer.

Hi everybody,

Thank you for your reports and helping us gather more info.

We've merged all threads regarding this issue into one, so it's easier to keep track 🙂

We've been able to reproduce this issue on our end and have passed on the info you've provided on to the right teams at Spotify, who are looking into the matter.

We'll let you know here, as soon as we have news on any development.

Take care!

Does this look like a solution to the arrow keys problem to you? Well I feel that you are trying to fool someone here...

Hi,

Sorry, not trying to be rude!

My installation is not functional since arrows were disabled. I thought this was basic stuff...

Using W7 and spotify v1.1.70.610.

Thx

Hey @jeannevaljeanne,

Thanks for the post.

Can you let us know if your arrow keys don't work only in a specific playlist or as a whole? This will help us investigate this further.

If possible, could you try if this works with your account on the PC of a friend/ family member running Windows 10, since official support for Windows 7 was discontinued by Microsoft in January 2020.

Keep us posted.

Hey,

Yup, same issue on W10 !

I’ve noticed that when pressing once the tab key on any “freshly” loaded page (anything, search results, a playlist, albums…), then I can use the arrows to scroll up and down.

Depending on the page, the first hit on “Tab” key selects either a button, the user name, or whatever; but it does also activate the arrows somehow…

Cheers

My Question or Issue

Using the Windows desktop app, it would be very nice if one could use the keyboard to scroll up and down an artist profile, to browse albums etc.. Either using the pageup/pagedown, or arrow keys, much like how one browses a webpage.

Yes there are the options of using the scroll wheel on a mouse, or the scrollbar to the right, but both of those options are more of an ergonomic challenge than being able to use the keyboard.

Hi there @carrier_flux,

Thank you for your reply and feedback.

As mentioned in the Top Answer above - we've reported this to the right team.

Let us know if we can help you with anything else in the meantime 🙂

Take care!

Live, love, laugh and listen to music 🙂

I also seem to be having this issue. Scrolling with arrow keys and pgup/pgdn in a playlist or discography works for a little while, but once the focused element scrolls sufficiently far outside the viewport it's removed (a common optimization), and the key events are no longer delivered where they should be. Since the arrow keys change the focused element, they work fine in a playlist, but they only let you move inside an album in a discography, not from one album to the next.

Steps to reproduce arrow keys issue:

1) Find an artist with multiple albums and go to their discography. (I used Sabaton, since they have a lot)

2) Select a song by (single) clicking on it. (I chose Ghost Division - Live in Prague, 2020, since it's the first result)

3) Press the down arrow key and see that the next song is selected. Keep doing this till you reach the last song on the album.

4) Press the down arrow key again and notice that this does not select the first song on the next album in the list.

Steps to reproduce pgdn/pgup issue:

1) Find an artist with multiple albums and go to their discography. (again I used Sabaton, since they have a lot)

2) Select a song by (single) clicking on it. (again I chose Ghost Division - Live in Prague, 2020, since it's the first result)

3) Press the page down key multiple times. Notice that it works correctly the first time, maybe the first few times. Notice also that once you have scrolled sufficiently far from the starting point, page down ceases to scroll.

Note that the arrow key issue may be intentional. To move from one album to the next, users can press the tab key.
